Report a translation problem
The issue is the "box" or "area" that defines your "hand area" is too low into the table, when the card is dealt it goes to the bottom of that box and is MEANT to go into your hand (but falls to the ground).
The solution for me was to use the "gizmo" tool on the left hand side of the game and change the -Y axis (9 is a good number) and make sure it isn't sunk into the table (you'll want to keep it close to the table however so that when a card is dragged to be in your hand it will still touch the box).

You cannot put cards in your hand if you pick them up as a stack (i.e. hold left click). You can put them in your hand if you pick them up individually (either single left click or hold left click then individual right clicks to pick up more).
I was picking up cards as a stack (holding left click) and could not add them to my hand.
don't put anything in the game lower than y position 1
don't make hands too small, 5 x 5 x 5 is pretty much the minimum i'd advise
