Windows and Mac Crossplay?
I have a board game nerd friend and he prefers Mac. He has a Windows machine as well, but I know he'd rather use his Macbook. If I get this for him, can I play on my Windows machine with him on his Mac? Or does he need to use his Windows machine too?

Using his Mac will be fine TTS is not bothered by that sort of thing. Through there is an issue with a specific OSX version you should be aware of, should you run into any problems with some of the scripted Mod's you may both subscribe to.

I agree with the above, but TTS is actually somewhat bothered by that sort of thing. There are inconsistencies between Mac, Linux, and Win versions of this game and not everything works perfectly by itself or between platforms. It can be somewhat of an annoyance, but really bad stuff has been a rarity in my experience and the wrinkles are tolerable. The game will work well enough, just don't count on all the features working together seamlessly.

Back up your saves and workshop items frequently. Save your games frequently too.

So, the answer is: "Yes, playing between Windows and Mac works, but it can be buggy"? My friend has a Windows desktop and Mac laptops. I don't know about the specs on his Macs, but the desktop is a few years old.

Would it be a better idea for him to just use the Windows version as we play? Would the Scythe DLC work if I owned it and he played with me?

Sure the DLC's only need the host to own it for every one else who joins the room to play. ALL the DLC's are loaded onto your machine when you install TTS wether you bought them or not. The proccess of purchasing a TTS DLC is to give that person decryption access to that stored content for the room there running. so any one else who enters that room see's the same decrypted content as long as the host chooses to keep it open.

Now that is good design. So no bull with 1 person not owning a DLC.

Welll, depends. I can easily see people grumbling about having to download items they don't want, or grumbling that said items are already on their machine and they can't use them without paying, etc. BUT, you have figured out the reason devs do this. Better safe than sorry.
