Games for long distance couples?
Hey all,

Are there any games people can recommend for couples, especially ones where you don't have to compete with each other? me and the gf are looking for a game to play together, so maybe there are some couples that can recommend something they have good experiences with?

Just do a Google search for co-op board games, there's tons of information out there. Then choose ones that look interesting to you and your girlfriend. My favorite co-op game is Arkham Horror and I can easily spend an entire day playing two to four games of it with people who also like it. But that's definitely a game you have to like, or it'll feel tedious (and it feels complex whether you like it or not).

I like building dungeons with some dungeon tile sets in the workshop :) Like trying to do the biggest place or try to stop the other to place his pieces.

A very interesting game my wife and I play together occassionally is The Ravens of Thri Sahashri. It's a cooperative two player game with interesting asymetrical gameplay, a lot of challenge, and an almost puzzle like feeling. It also has some light generational rules that change up the game each time you win. It can be a little confusing the first time playing the game, but the wife and I really enjoy it.

The Arkham Horror Living Card Game is also really fun for a couple of players, if you are into deckbuilding games. It has a light roleplaying game feel to it, and works well in Tabletop Simulator.

There are a number of coop games of various degrees of difficulty that work wonderfully with 2 people:

- Arkham Horror (the board game and the LCG)
- Eldritch Horror
- Too Many Bones
- Lord of the Rings LCG
- Pathfinder LCG
- Gloomhaven
- Descent
- Mansions of Madness
- Burgle Bros
- Forbidden Island
- Forbidden Desert
- Dragonfire
- Aeons End
- 7th Continent

I believe The Fog of Love is a game for 2 people about love. I don't know, it's worth a try. I haven't had the opportunity to try it out (cry, cry).

Good two-player cooperatives would be something like T.I.M.E. Stories, because it's not driven by violence and stat building, and it builds relationships between characters (some good stuff for love and stuff). Some co-op games are really "semi-co-op" in disguise. Games like Pathfinder ACG still have a sense of invidual ranking, but it's pretty light. I don't know if Eldritch and Arkham would make good couples games unless you guys don't mind a pretty rules laden constant horror fest where pestulence and death are around every corner.

The Captain is Dead has some balance issues (some characters are far stronger than others, but that can be tweaked with house rules), but it really is truly co-op, and requires a lot of working together to win.

I would also recommend watching Rahdo Runs Through It on youtube, as well as Pink Elephant Games on youtube. Both of those channels are run by "couples." So there's some balanced opinions of games that are good for that I think.

I reccomend Childrens' Card Games. Also known as yu gi oh. As long as you don't take things too seriously, you'll be having a good time no matter who's winning.

Pandemic is a classic, although it is pretty easy with 2 players.

Pandemic is a good one, and Pandemic Legacy more a co-op and more character driven. Pandemic Iberia is by far the most romantic. Ah, the water of life.

I really like playing Galaxy Trucker with my SO. It's competitive, but in a very passive, fun sort of way (basically you each build a space ship with tiles then see how they fair against a series of challenges).

The Captain is Dead is available as DLC and isn't bad, and is totally co-op.

You could check out some Shut Up and Sit Down videos for other ideas, they have thorough and entertaining board game reviews. https://www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos-page/

Besides that, I'd just internet search board games using the term "co-op" or "co-operative" since that specifically refers to the types of board games you're looking for (little or no direct competition). You might want to avoid games that have "traitor" mechanics though.

Good luck!

There is also Flashpoint. A cooperative firefighter game, each of you can control multiple firefighters.
