The Arkham Horror Living Card Game is also really fun for a couple of players, if you are into deckbuilding games. It has a light roleplaying game feel to it, and works well in Tabletop Simulator.
- Arkham Horror (the board game and the LCG)
- Eldritch Horror
- Too Many Bones
- Lord of the Rings LCG
- Pathfinder LCG
- Gloomhaven
- Descent
- Mansions of Madness
- Burgle Bros
- Forbidden Island
- Forbidden Desert
- Dragonfire
- Aeons End
- 7th Continent
Good two-player cooperatives would be something like T.I.M.E. Stories, because it's not driven by violence and stat building, and it builds relationships between characters (some good stuff for love and stuff). Some co-op games are really "semi-co-op" in disguise. Games like Pathfinder ACG still have a sense of invidual ranking, but it's pretty light. I don't know if Eldritch and Arkham would make good couples games unless you guys don't mind a pretty rules laden constant horror fest where pestulence and death are around every corner.
The Captain is Dead has some balance issues (some characters are far stronger than others, but that can be tweaked with house rules), but it really is truly co-op, and requires a lot of working together to win.
I would also recommend watching Rahdo Runs Through It on youtube, as well as Pink Elephant Games on youtube. Both of those channels are run by "couples." So there's some balanced opinions of games that are good for that I think.
Pandemic is a good one, and Pandemic Legacy more a co-op and more character driven. Pandemic Iberia is by far the most romantic. Ah, the water of life.
The Captain is Dead is available as DLC and isn't bad, and is totally co-op.
You could check out some Shut Up and Sit Down videos for other ideas, they have thorough and entertaining board game reviews. https://www.shutupandsitdown.com/videos-page/
Besides that, I'd just internet search board games using the term "co-op" or "co-operative" since that specifically refers to the types of board games you're looking for (little or no direct competition). You might want to avoid games that have "traitor" mechanics though.
Good luck!
