Rant: Secret Hitler players are toxic
I bought this game wanting to play bord games with a lot of people, mostly in a casual and friendly way. One of the games i most want to play is Secret Hitler, which it seems fun as a secret identity game, but people take it too serious to the point is not even funny anymore. All of the open rooms i could find were of groups of people that explicitly want mic (when for example i cant use it when i play way past midnight) or kick you out in a matter of seconds. I dont know what i want with this rant, but hey, a nice shoutut to the Secret Hitler players that if you want closed rooms and not wanting espectaros, just set your rooms in private.

They keep their rooms open to strangers can drop in, they just want strangers that can talk. It's a deception game, it's important to have vocals. It's bad enough we cannot have faces revealed, we gotta have something. If you don't want to use a mic, that's fine, just find a game that's also okay with that. They're not toxic for sticking with what they want in a game. If they can only have fun playing with players with mics, why can't they be picky?

Just host your own game if it's constantly a problem. I'm sure plenty of players will join of you specificly say no mic needed.

A couple observations:

You are correct. The SH community on TTS is quite toxic. I don't play SH unless I'm hosting for that very reason. This is the only game I have that policy with, so that tells you something. SH is a great game (I own the physical version as well - very nice components), but for whatever reason the community is just horrid on TTS. I would advise hosting your own games and kicking the trolls.

Regarding voice/mic requirements - I also require mics for all social deduction games that I play. It's just part of what makes the game enjoyable for me. If you can't speak, it's hard to use your voice inflection when it comes to bluffing, etc. It's really a good idea to use mics for these types of games. Using only text chat makes it entirely too easy for people to get away with bold faced lies, IMO.

The game that SH is based on is The Resistance. The community for that game is not toxic at all and doesn't have a forced meta (another aspect I can't stand about the SH community on TTS). It also has a nice bonus of having a LOT more variety with regards to options on how to play the game. I own the physical version of The Resistance along with the Plot Thickens expansion and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys SH. Try joining this game sometimes instead of SH. Lots of the same feel without the toxic players.

Best of luck!

Hellshake Ben and Kelson, I think you two should kinda start a team, so far you seem to be two good headed/hearted peoples who could play in each another's game.

(Maybe you'll set a TTS standard and example. ^^ )

Secret Hitler does attract a whole lot of trolls, but the etiquette can be quite dreadful across the map. SH has a special place because of where/how it was popularized. There are so many great games on here, it's annoying that people only play a few of them, and that one of them is Secret Hitler. The game itself is a social experiment, its players are the study. At some point, the media will be spewing out clickbait about this game because it was attached to something horrible, and that itself I think is part of the experiment. SH players top the permaban lists. *cough* Don't they?
