I had noticed the StackOverflow problem when launching the game from terminal to get some textual output. I've made a post here describing my experience with this bug: https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/discussions/0/3183345176721925234/?ctp=9#c1648791520844353134
The newest TTS version with the debug messages confirms that there's this StackOverflowException in the debug log before freezing.
I did try using gdb on the TTS process but it immediately crashed it when doing so. Anyone with more knowledge of gdb and luck get any better results with it?
I just tried with Proton 4.2 and Proton 3.16-9 Beta. The game launched on both, but I got the error "Could not connect to Steam. Please restart Steam" at the main menu, and on the Server Browser I get a "Not connected to steam" Error.
Does someone know how to work around this problem?
The non-proton version still behaves the same -- hangs in multiplayer mode after a connection.
Get this exact series of errors.

Other than thread starting/stopping messages. the only thing that appears in the log around the time of the crash is stuff about mic volume being zero and setting it to 12. Not for sure but I think that is happening on an unrelated thread.
without debugging symbols baked in I have no way of knowing exactly where/why the crash happened. Just an address. My gdb skills are rather weak. :/
For linux users to downgrade:
web browser -> "steam://open/console" -> run with steam bootstrap client
in "console" paste:
Window users will need to downgrade to play with linux users. Steam will constantly complain about unable to find server(s) but you can join through steam invites.
