Update v12.0 freezes after joining a game [Linux]
Since the new update i can't play multiplayer games. If I play alone everything works, but when i try to join a friend's multiplayer game, Tabletop Simulatop stop responding immediately after joining the game (if I'm hosting the game, when my friend joins the game keeps running some seconds before freezing).

I tried veryfing the game files and reinstalling TTS. Here is the player log https://pastebin.com/icXHdFLy

Alright everyone the crashing issues should be resolved but I had to disable voice chat on Linux for right now because it was the cause. Let me know if everything is working correctly for you all!

latest update pushed a debug version of the game to try and get more useful information. I'm not seeing any more useful information, but someone with more know how might be able to find something to help the devs.
Here is my ~/.config/unity3d/Editor/Player.log from the debug build after a mulitplayer freeze:
https://pastebin.com/raw/2UAKLpqb
Problem still occurs, but at least I've got some debug logs now. There's a StackOverflowException/NullReferenceException that seems to kick in before it locks up.
Lucky, my game is just magenta for some reason.
Although I still think the linux problem should be fixed, for those of you who need this working on Linux for now, you can turn on Proton. It works for me. (Do note that Proton has its own Wine-like structure, so your prior Saves will need to be either symlinked or copied into Proton's folder)
I'm having exactly the same problem on Linux that everyone is describing: TTS runs OK on single player, and also OK on multiplayer but only UNTIL another player joins. Then after a few seconds it freezes. When joining someone's game it freezes a few seconds after I connect to the host.

I had noticed the StackOverflow problem when launching the game from terminal to get some textual output. I've made a post here describing my experience with this bug: https://steamcommunity.com/app/286160/discussions/0/3183345176721925234/?ctp=9#c1648791520844353134

The newest TTS version with the debug messages confirms that there's this StackOverflowException in the debug log before freezing.

The main issue the devs are currently having with the issue is that the logs they're getting are sadly not useful enough to pin point the problem.

I did try using gdb on the TTS process but it immediately crashed it when doing so. Anyone with more knowledge of gdb and luck get any better results with it?

How did you installed the proton version ?

Right click on the game in your library. Click "properties". Enable "Force use of a specific compatibility tool."

I just tried with Proton 4.2 and Proton 3.16-9 Beta. The game launched on both, but I got the error "Could not connect to Steam. Please restart Steam" at the main menu, and on the Server Browser I get a "Not connected to steam" Error.

Does someone know how to work around this problem?
Proton worked until the latest hot fix. Now it just says Cannot Connect to Steam. Even single player is not available.

The non-proton version still behaves the same -- hangs in multiplayer mode after a connection.

Same freeze here... mint 19 / kernel 4.15.0-48-generic / nvidia 415.27
Same problem
no longer able to play using the proton workaround :(
I've ran the game through gdb a couple times. Join a MP game and let it crash.

Get this exact series of errors.

Thread 29 "Tabletop Simula" received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
Stack overflow in unmanaged: IP: 0x7ffff0b1ae6f, fault addr: 0x7fffdc37cd18

Other than thread starting/stopping messages. the only thing that appears in the log around the time of the crash is stuff about mic volume being zero and setting it to 12. Not for sure but I think that is happening on an unrelated thread.

without debugging symbols baked in I have no way of knowing exactly where/why the crash happened. Just an address. My gdb skills are rather weak. :/

For anyone who has friends, to play with you can downgrade the game using steam dev console. Windows users would need to downgrade to play with you as well.

For linux users to downgrade:
web browser -> "steam://open/console" -> run with steam bootstrap client
in "console" paste:
download_depot 286160 286163 2521430300014968299
go to ~/.steam/ubuntu12_32/steamapps/content and search for the depot for 286160 copy the depot folder as a replacement for Tabletop Simulator

Window users will need to downgrade to play with linux users. Steam will constantly complain about unable to find server(s) but you can join through steam invites.

windows is
download_depot 286160 286161 4720845739904601060
Hope for a fix soon.
