can't buy 4-pack as a gift?

I wanted to get a couple of 4 packs so my friends could play but the option to buy for myself or as a gift is greyed out, am I not allowed to buy a 4-pack for others once i have the game?

Right, you cannot buy the 4 pack if you already own the game. Reason is you have to get a copy for yourself if you buy the 4 pack, and you can't do that if you already have the game. Since you can't get a copy for yourself, the price is the exact same as buying 3 regular copies, so there's no reason not to do that.

The reason you have to give yourself a copy is to prevent people from buying up multiple 4-packs and selling them individually at a reduced rate and making money as a middle man.

BTW, this is not specific to Tabletop Simulator. It applies to every 4-pack game like Left 4 Dead and the like.

I understand, it's annoying as I have 5 people to get copys of this too and getting 3 for the price of 4 is nice, I guess I'll just send one of them steam wallet code for $30 and buy one more copy for the odd man out

Yeah, that's the workaround. Give one of the friends enough money to buy the pack and then trade all the copies to you, or just tell the friend who to give the extras to.

It's just cumbersome enough to be annoying but doable with friends, and super unreliable if you're trying to sell cheap copies to strangers.

You get inventory copies, not keys.
