Hiding Mouse Over Button Icon
Hi, so currently, with the new icons, there's one that pops up whenever you mouse over a UI script button in game that's a red button thing. It's fine. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I suppose it could be useful for some people.

However, it is a pretty big issue that the little icon pops up even when the object it's attached to is hidden by a hidden zone... I have a mod that dynamically creates and adds buttons depending on which role that player may be - and being that it's a hidden role game, it just opens a new way for players to cheat by mousing over the general area and seeing if that icon pops up.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or what, but it would be nice to have hidden zones hide those icons, and perhaps even a right click toggle or JSON option to enable/disable said icons. But for now, if anyone knows a work around, that would be nice

I don't like it either.

I'm not sure why that's a thing, it's pretty clear that something is a button without it.

Not necessarily. I strongly dislike the ugly lua buttons so in mods where presentation matters I texture in my own (and I've seen a few select modders follow suit as well). That these are buttons is obvious to you and me but certainly isn't always clear as day for everyone.

Gotta cater to the potato.

So... what you're saying is that people make buttons not look like buttons anymore and because of that now every button needs to yell to everyone that they are buttons?

Sounds like an existential problem to me.

Not everyone are contempt with hideous lua buttons :steammocking:

Naturally having the option to turn it off would be ideal, however it seems to me like the problem here is not being aware of the obvious use case; distinguishing between non/interactable objects.

Before I saw this thread, I didn't even know what this symbol was supposed to mean. I vote for its removal too. There should be better methods for highlighting clickable buttons than that.

I thought the symbol was to show which player was hitting a particular button.

Red player hovers over the button a red symbol appears. I thought that's what it meant lol.

Nope it's always red and only you can see it.

Why on earth is the visibility of this icon not configurable via settings?

I use the Counter component and this button icon continually obscures the Counter display, very annoying.

The icon is completely redundant for the Counter, the buttons are obvious. Thats why it needs to be configurable.
