A safe build I've used is:
1. Que farm as soon as you spawn,
2.find the enemy
3.then warren - either a Lizard or Squirrel your preference but in my experience when stuck on tier 1 squirrels out preform Lizard.
4.scout again to see if your opponent is zerg rushing,
5.If they are next 60 food is a toad warren. Not that toads will hard counter a zerg rush and solve all your problems, but they are the "counter" on tier 1
Hope this helps
Also remember to keep your units on top of the warrens. This makes it very hard for your enemy to target your units rather than the warren. Also be vary of your general warren placement - keep it near the possible attack path and near the farms so pigs can help dealing with the attack.
Lastly, there are some units that are very good at dealing with the early aggression. Let's say you scout 5 farm 2 warrens lizard start from your enemy and you only have 1 squirrel warren. Instead of dropping another squirrel warren, drop warren for toads. Toads are very good at dealing with tier 1 units, especially when they are trying to swarm your base.
unfortunately, this is how most RTS games go. if a player does an early zerg rush an fails, hes so far behind that most times they've already lost. so they just surrender as they will never have the resources to counter any higher tier you've gotten.
