I love this game, but im not gonna lie the ending was very dissatisfying. After working for 3 days straight grinding out these missions for each faction even though I only really care for 2 of em. Only so see none of the 4 factions win. Kinda dissapointing, I was kinda hoping that depending on which faction wins the 4 way fight you get a specific ending. Not to mention there are a lot of un answered questions such as:
What happened to the heros?
What happened to the leaders of each faction?
Why did the pigs betray the Civilized after there is a whole mission dedicated to protecting them?
How did so many pigs go unnoticed by the 4 factions when there was a distinct shortage of meat?

I really hope that maybe a DLC might answer some questions like this.

They all died. The factions were trapped in a never-ending cycle of violence and the pigs carefully manipulated them into making themselves vulnerable.

There are hints all through the game that the Pigs are smarter and less content than those around them give them credit for, and the Civilized were only protecting them to work and later eat. The pigs were the real revolutionaries fighting to overthrow the entire system of eating meat, and they won by playing all sides against each other (and killing the Tsarina to destroy their stability).

I feel the ending was a bit lack luster as well. I mean besides the fact that somehow all those pigs where just very good at hiding so good that an entire nation didn't notice them in the middle of a famine! And why is there that final battle in the first place? Three of the factions give peace a chance then Archimedes burns the town it was founded on to the ground and the go back to fighting each other?

Don't get me wrong i understand why we got this ending for a game play perspective (apparently you can in fact beat the massive horde of pig-men) http://steamcommunity.com/app/286000/discussions/0/2765630416813925634/ but it just feels hollow after getting invested in the world. I hope they do something with this game in the future because I really enjoyed playing it so having the unceremoniously send off was a bit of a low point for me.

For me this is the most logical ending from the pov of the story mode.

I mean, we follow the whole war without realy taking any side, we just see the evolution of each factions.

But im still in for a "what if" kind of story mode where you can pick a faction and lead it to the victory, seeing a special ending depending wich one win.

I want to see a return of the royal family and the merchants play a bigger role if they do a dlc campaign.

maybe the royal family could step in and stamp out the pig revolt and the merchants get a lot of opportunities to help the 4 factions rebuild afterwards?

Honestly this was the ending I was hoping for since the beginning of the campaign. The plight of the Swine was hard to ignore and only made the faction leaders' beliefs seem hollow, especially the Commonfolk's "democratic" idea of voting who gets eaten. Democracy for whom? There could never be a true democracy as long as the classes of 'Swine' and 'Beast' exsited. And then there was that "peaceful" utopia three of the factions setup. But for the Swine it was still built upon the same exploitation of their labor and lives. It was the system that had to go.

I enjoyed the ending. All the factions had their ups and downs but in the end were all conceited and/or insane without any real solution to the food problem.

The "heroes" and commanders died with their troops.

Albeit the Civilized "protect" the pigs, they still had their flesh under oath. It's like a criminal organization that exploits you by "protecting" and charging "insurance".

Pigs went unnoticed because everyone not only underestimated them, they trusted in their lack of retaliation to survive. You can see this throughout the entire campaign.

It was the only thematically appropriate ending. Becoming invested in each faction and then having the rug pulled out from under you was the punchline to a very long joke.
