Most of your opponent will do a zerg rush, that mean no expansion and attack you with the fastest t1 unit : the lizzard.
But some changes are coming this week, so the meta will change too.
The real question is will it stay stable (or even grow) over time, or will it be dead in a month.
I can't answer that question, but I hope this crossplatform with PS4 is high on their priority.
Ranked wasn't hard to find opponents so far. Macro in this game can be fun, at least to me. Choosing expansions is a strategic decision. The maps are randomized, so you have to adapt to the situation often. The same strats from SC can apply here in the sense of expand more and reduce enemy expansions. Put pressure early, so you can expand. Build an army to protect yourself while you expand.
The difference is there's less army management ability. Mostly it's 1A style because of the simplified control scheme. You can either move your entire army at once, or move all of one kind of unit. You can target fire, which is pretty important.
There is a lot less management required, so it's easier to play than SC. I've played a few hundred hours of SC2, and I find this game fun. I might also be a little biased because I've played a few thousand hours of Monaco. I can't comment about WC3 as I haven't played it.
If you like SC you'll enjoy this.
