How do I carry more than 5 coins and how do I upgrade the lantern? And how do I find a metro to ride as well?

Lantern upgrades, more inventory space, and bigger coin string is something you get primarily from the three different chicken types on the map. As far as I've played, these upgrades are temporary, they reset when you 'die' / get lost.

To feed the chickens you need crystals, these come from giving the trolls 8 wood or as rewards.

Haven't found another metro station yet.

You'll need to explore further away from the village to find Metro stations that will allow you (for a price) to go back directly to the village.
