If you have Win 7 or higher, you have two options. First is using virtual machine (VMware Player) with trial version of Win XP - you need to install Steam and the game itself on that virtual machine.
Second option is unpacking game archives. There is a fan site dem. org. ua where you can download an utility called ExMachina "GDP Archives Unpacker/Packer v2.0 by jTommy".

I do understand that recommendation to download unknown file from unofficial site looks shady, but you can always scan said unpacker with your AV software or send it to Virustotal. Or just don't download it and try virtual machine solution.

After downloading take next steps:

1) make sure that there is no parentheses in the \your Steam Folder\steamapps\common\Hard Truck Apocalypse path. If, say, path looks like C:\Program files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hard Truck Apocalypse - that's a no-go and you have to reinstall the game somewhere else;

2) move the file config.cfg from the same \data folder to some other folder (your desktop is fine);

3) consider backing up your whole \data folder somewhere else just in case.
Then go to the \your Steam Folder\steamapps\common\Hard Truck Apocalypse\data and unpack via said unpacker files pack00.gdp, pack01.gdp, pack02.gdp, pack03.gdp to the folder of your choice. This will result in folders like __pack01.gdp with \data folders in them;

4) open the __pack01.gdp folder and move \data folder from it to the \your Steam Folder\steamapps\common\Hard Truck Apocalypse. Accept merging folders and replacing files. You have to do this in next order:
1. _pack01.gdp
2. _pack00.gdp
3. _pack02.gdp
4. _pack03.gdp

5) move config.cfg file from the step 2 back to the \data folder;

6) find the datasources.txt file in your \Hard Truck Apocalypse\data folder, open it with text editor and remove everything from it except first 'data' word. Save the changes;

7) play.

You can also set compatibility hta.exe with the WinXP SP2.
If you open config.cfg rom the \Hard Truck Apocalypse\data folder (that one which you moved out of thr\e folder and then back) with text editor, you can manually set resolution in the r_width=""/r_height="" rows. It worked fine for me with the 1920x1080 resolution, not sure about higher ones.
If you're getting the black screen at the launch, try finding rows video00="data\video\logo.avi", video01="data\video\intro.avi", video02="whatever" and delete everyting between quotation marks so it looks like video00="", video01="", video02=""

Kudos, Ash! Worked for me just fine. Running on 1920x1800. :steamhappy:
I can confirm this method. I used it and this method made the game to run perfectly.

all I had to do was add HTA.exe to my list of programs running on my Nvidia GPU....

Hey I couldnt understand this process. I downloaded the unpacker, but you said the path is a no-go. Whatever I seen it in people who does it while it is in (x86) folder. Can you explain? thanks
