The reason is quite simple, inbreeding. AI using AI arts on it's learning process, and since there are an absurd amount of AI slop being created they start to become far too similar.
A process also know as "Garbage in, garbage out"

If the developer really got rid of all the AI-generated assets, then cudos to dev, it was the right decision and I will probably buy the game when it's released.
Personally, I will never buy a game with AI assets, even if it means I'll only play my backlog for the rest of my life.
If you have not paid for the art in your game, you are not entitled to be paid for your game.
That's supposed to be a joke, right?
come on.. https://files.catbox.moe/tp25sj.jpg
The overall castle is of doo-doo quality, it's pixelated and was definitely stretched to fill the whole picture; the towers of the castle aren't symmetric, they have weird windows placement and the light inside of them is just too much of a random mess to be drawn by a human being; the mosaic glass is just a joke, it has random spots all over it, the AI wasn't able to make a star in the upper part so it has a random black bar in the left bottom cone, the lower left cross is distinct whilst the lower right one isn't; come on, you can literally get cut up by the sharp edges that are the result of sloppy cutting in Photoshop.
You can see the grey aura around items as a result of sloppy cutting, and items being of completely different art styles. The most pathetic is the example of "Iron Stake" item which literally is a wooden chair leg, dude didn't even care to at least generate another picture.
Reminds me of flash games made with the use of completely random stock photos. Hooray, the future of gaming is here.
Normally I can understand using AI when the dev is too broke to hire an artist and can't draw at all themselves. But like, dev clearly can do art so I don't see an excuse here. The castle in that ♥♥♥ is dark either way, not much detail, so even without much experience in that field I don't think it would pose an issue to idk even just trace it and touch it up manually a bit so it doesn't look awful.
complaining about ai relying on stealing in a game that has stolen its gameplay concept from Hades
Agreed man, it s not just that AI Art is displeasing to the eye, it s also the fact that when you make a game the elements of the game are connected between them, creating an aesthetic, themes and visual direction that hugely impact the vibe and feeling that the game gives. It s a bit difficult to explain but if all the inventory weapons and items were drawn in the same style as the characters they would look noticeably more alluring since they would serve a strong visual contrast to the game s environment. It feels boring staring at some bland grey and gold metal crosses and objects, but I don t really mind since they don t affect the gameplay. But one thing I know is that if the items were embracing the color palette of the Gothic and elegant aristocrat-ish characters and had 2 D shades and depth to them they would be a pleasure to collect and look at to the point where you wish you had an collected item gallery just so you can see them, like dead cells has for it s pixelated weapons.
