Input lag
Just a heads-up for anyone having the issue of input lag; I went into Nvidia control panel and turned the vsync off globally (you can do this on a per-application basis too) and the input lag is gone. The game is finally responsive.

Also, a question: Is there a way to turn off the vsync for this game aside from the graphics card configurations?

There isn't a way to turn v-sync off ingame, as far as I know.

That's really weird. Turning off vsync is an option available in most games today where responsiveness matters less than in shmups. I don't understand how developers can repeatedly overlook this issue as the input lag introduced by vsync really ruins the games for me.

For what it's worth, I haven't heard of v-sync causing substantial input lag for anyone else. I can request a v-sync toggle in the next patch, though.

May or may not be worth something for the developer in determining whether fixing this issue is worth his time, but it doesn't help me. I have input lag in most shmups, for some reason the Exceed series plays most responsively most of the time, but in Exceed 3rd I sometimes get heavy input lag from the start and restarting the game may or may not make the issue go away. I have not been able to find what causes this, as it ran fine with vsync on but sometimes lags randomly. I also had clearly noticeable input lag in Gundemonium Recollection, Gundeadligne and Hitogata Happa, which for the first two games (I didn't test Happa) also went away after I turned vsync off globally from Nvidia control panel. Everyone who plays Touhou knows that the earlier Windows games, most notably Perfect Cherry Blossom and Imperishable Night had serious input lag which went away with the 3rd party vsync patches. I know for a fact that I'm not just imagining things, the difference in responsiveness is enormous before and after turning off vsync; it really feels like a different game.

I don't know, maybe the lag could be worse on certain graphics cards, or drivers? Or maybe some people have so much faster reaction times that they can get accustomed to playing with lag, or just don't notice that their ship's moving in the past? Doesn't really help me either, and I'm very sensitive to noticing the lag. If I say my controls are lagging, they most definitely are. Not meaning to get defensive here as you didn't insinuate that I'm imagining things, but often times when you bring something like this up there's a bunch of opportunists chiming in to tell you how you need to learn2play and get good, which doesn't help at all.

If you could let the developer know about this, it would be great and considering probabilities I'm certain that I'd not be the only one who would appreciate it and be grateful for the drastic improvement in gameplay that this would bring for us unfortunate few (although I already have it fixed, but maybe many others don't, and an in-game option for ensuring responsive controls in such a game would be pro). Thanks!

No, I'm not saying the lag isn't there; input lag is very noticable and distracting when it happens in a bullet hell game.

The fact the you get the same kind of lag in most shmups, which are presumably running with the same video instructions, makes me think that the issue might be with your specific video card. I'm running an AMD card myself, which may explain the difference.

Which GPU model are you using specifically? It may help to track down the issue.

I have a ASUS ROG Matrix GTX580 and running Windows 7 64bit at 2560x1600. My friend has an older 1st gen Phenom rig with AMD HD 4890 and he hasn't mentioned input lag to me, but I'm not sure if he could tell. I told him about my vsync tweak though and he said he'd give it a shot, but didn't say if he had experienced the issue to begin with.

Alright, I'll pass the info along and see if that doesn't help.

For me there's no noticeable input lag. But then again, I'm used to Mame shmups, and emulators have unfixable input lag, but this is a lot better than an emulator.

have you tried putting ''maximum pre rendered frames'' to 0 in the Nvidia control panel?
Aurinko Nov 27, 2014 @ 3:48am
I don't think I've tried tweaking the pre-rendered frames setting. I will try that when I get a chance, thanks for the tip.

Curiously, I haven't noticed input lag when playing on MAME.
