Sea of Thieves more coop\party oriented. And its well-known for griefers and toxic folks around. It’s not boring if you have at least one or two friends, but like many other MMOs, it lacks interesting endgame content. Plus its completely different by gameplay and visually.
Skull n Bones solo\casual friendly. If you wanna roam alone and have fun in PvP\PvE without pre-made group - you’re all set. This game has LFG-like system that works well. The story and overall experience can vary depending on your taste. And it lacks of interesting endgame stuff too but devs said in Year 2 this gonna be fixed (take that with a grain of salt tho).
Better check some videos on YT to compare and check what issues SoT and SnB have, and whether you can bear with them. :cat_pirate:
UPD. And don't forget that a lot of players use the Ubi launcher to play it, so the Steam charts do not provide the full picture.

i haven't played skull but i'm a pirate legend on sea of thieves. i quit because sea has no economy. it's all just repetition and cosmetics. it's only worth playing short-term. the pvp in sea is horrible. i'm good at it and i can tell you that it's absolute trash. people jumping around throwing fire bombs and boarding ships. there is no actual ship combat where you fire cannons. it's all about boarding.

The people not have bought it on steam but outside.

Maybe he just doesn't like the game :P .

But yes, most of the people playing have bought it through Ubisoft Connect either on PC or through their consoles.

wow a pirate legend! You can achieve that literally in few days. "it's all just repetition" when you play fifa isn't just repetition? cod? league of legends? tekken? any other game?? I tell you a secret, its not. Each session you play is different and unique, different things happens, everytime. And you can play with and against different ppl, everytime.

You are good at pvp in SoT?? Because you're pirate legend?? You must be one of these guys then: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k4Ooh4MPVQ :lunar2019laughingpig::lunar2019laughingpig: Im telling you, you are not. You never did serious pvp in SoT. You never played in arena, you never did serious hourglass pvp, never did serious pvp in the open seas against really good players, never organized serious pvp deathmatch / scrims / tournaments vs serious ppl using Discord. You don't know how manage sails and use cannons to master the "death spiral" tech ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulUNEOq0tZ4 ) . Also only noobs use fire bombs in pvp. And you are one of them.

Its not only about how many ppl are playing it rn on Steam, its about to use this chart as indicator to see how many ppl dropped the game already. From 1300 daily active average to 130 its a HUGE drop (90%). On xbox happened the same thing too:

https://www.trueachievements.com/news/skull-and-bones-lost-90-xbox-players

Others clients (ubi connect, etc) and platforms (consoles) followed the same trend but you just can't see it ofc. Also:

https://gameworldobserver.com/2024/02/22/skull-and-bones-850k-players-compared-to-other-2024-games

https://www.metacritic.com/game/skull-and-bones/

"Quadruple-A game" btw.

Most prob there are just few thousands ppl playing accross all platforms and clients, and the game will close servers in a couple of years from now. Meanwhile Sea of thieves is celebrating its seventh anniversary and has already the next 5 years of updates planned: https://gamersocialclub.ca/2025/03/21/rare-has-the-next-five-years-planned-for-sea-of-thieves/

Read my post here from 16th of March: https://steamcommunity.com/app/2853730/discussions/0/596263145435051889/?ctp=2#c828204828240993397

I estimated a drop of about 85% playerbase at the time.

You didn't tell me something I don't know already. I just prefer SnB to the rest of the games marketed as "pirate games".
Just try the 6h trial and decide for yourself
https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/game/skull-and-bones/free-trial

Don't let other opinion sway you: either shoo you away or convince you to buy the game. There's the trial, decide for yourself.
The steam not matter the people bought outside of steam. Who bought on steam is for write bad review because hate the game and ubisoft.
