the problem with big ships is that the world designers did not account for big ships when designing some of the more narrow rivers inbetween the islands so some of those are too small to manouver a big ship in properly now.
Currently the state of the game isn't fitting for large ship, not to mention that current balance between small and medium is still broken atm. Sloop is currently overpowering it's bigger sibling, padewakang in power.
Just treat this game as early access game with content gets added slowly.
Edit: i don't think we are getting first rates, especially ship of the lines. We are getting frigate, carracks and probably corvette, but i don't think that we gonna own a ship of the line.
