Way for Tunnel Making?

In numerous footage and the game itself I have seen rollercoasters and paths that go through tunnels. I don't know how to do it; I also tried attempting to make a rollercoaster through ground but it comes up with the usual 'Raise or lower ground'. Do any of you guys know how to do this?

Raise or lower the ground, and then build the track through the exposed cliff face. Make sure there's enough room for the track to go underground.

it has to be a flat vertical face (or flat ground if the drop is 90 degrees) with at least 2 height units of clearance above the track and it has to be a full track piece (curve cant start a tunnel halfway through the piece, same with vertical drop)

Hold down the Right Shift key, it allows you to move objects, (Scenery/Rides) up or down.
