Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 Won't Open

I'm on Windows 10 and whenever I try to open the Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 the game will not even open and I've tried everything Steam told me, I deleted the App Cache, I ran it as administrator and I even flushed Steam. If anyone can help or add in any input it would be massivley appreciated.

THIS MIGHT WORK: Go to your Steam LIBRARY and right click on your Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 game. Go to PROPERTIES located at the bottom of the box that pops up.Then go to LOCAL FILES at the top of the next window that pops up. Then go to BROWSE LOCAL FILES. Then look for RCT2, it should have the Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 game picture next to it. Double click that and it should work.

I personally recommend minimizing all other things you have open exept the box that contains RCT2. Right click on RCT2 and CREATE SHORTCUT. Click and drag that shortcut onto your desktop background and have that be your new way to acess the game. That way you won't have to go to Library, Properties, and Browse local files every time you want to play it.

My problem I had with "Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 Triple Thrill Pack" was that it would say "unable to initialize graphics system" I tried different things I read in the forums like going to device manager, display adapters, then disabling my NVIDIA graphics card, but that didn't work. So then I went to the Steam Library and right clicked on the game, went to properties, set launch options, and typed in -winxp but that didn't work either. I just kind of got lucky and fixed it on my own by looking through everything the properties showed me.

I have Windows 10 also everything was working fine then out of the blue the game started crashing it keeps telling me cannot validate program file /05555949000 whatever that is I think there may have been a micro patch for Windows 10 That stop the game from working.

Another way to fix it is by downloading OpenRCT2 (Google it, it's totally safe and legal). It's a project (mod I suppose?) that fixes most of RCT2s bugs and errors (including Steam's RCT2's launching bugs and errors). It's getting regularly updated as well.

I had two issues that needed resolving for my particular issue. Firstly, DirectPlay wasn't enabled in Control Panel > Programs and Features >Turn Windows Features On or Off > Legacy Components.

Secondly, Win 10 doesn't work natively, but if you run it in compatibility mode for W7 (no admin screen every time, unlike XP compatibility) it works fine!

Edit. I only got to the menu screen okay. It just kept crashing after that. XP SP2 compatibility mode got the game to actually function, but I recommend just using OpenRTC2 if you don't want to base your park on the tutorial coaster.

But i did try to open it as a Administrator and now it says "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022). Click OK to close the application.

Hey, I found a fix for mine that might help ya'll, I run on Wins 8. I had to do this for both Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe and Roller Coaster Tycoon Triple Thrill Pack. You basically by-pass Steam and just install the game on your PC. Right-click the game and go to "Properties", then click "Browse Local Files...". For the original Roller Coaster Tycoon you want to locate "RCTdeluxe_install" folder and in Tycoon 2 you want to locate the "Install" folder. In these folders look for the "setup" application. It is a dark blue icon. Click that (follow the prompts) and it will install the game directly to your computer, create a short-cut, and you can launch the game from there.

Hope this helps! I spent 2 hours trying to solve this for myself so maybe I'll save ya'll some time. :P
