RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

Game asks for CD, even though I downloaded from steam.
I have the origonal RCT disk and it works fine in compatability mode running from a cd. I decided to download RCT Deluxe from steam because I wanted to stop using the disk and get the additional features from the expansion packs.

I deleted my install of RCT and installed the steam version. Installation went fine. However, each time I attempt to run the program, it asks me for the loopy landscapes CD. But I have no disc, because I purchased on steam!

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, I have set it to run in compatability mode, as well as disallowing windows themes, and running as admin. The usual stuff for getting RTC to play on windows 7.

Has anybody else had this problem? Why would it even ask for a cd?

Did you move it from the install directory?

Install in X65 C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe
or X86 C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe

I really wish I knew **HOW** you got your game to even work! I've tried several compatibility modes, and NONE OF THEM work! I have Win8.1, and this (insert your own cuss word) game is REALLY PATHETIC!! Nothing seems to work!

I have NO CHOICE but to now uninstall and wish I hadn't spent the money I did; which I will never get back now.

*shrug* it works fine on 8.1, 7 and even Vista. 3 different systems - all with different video cards, etc... The problem isn't the game; it's something about your system.

Well, if you could TELL ME *how* you got it to work on a Win8.1 system, I am all ears. I highly doubt that there's something with **my** system that the game will not work.

I can't tell you for certain; I don't remember doing anything different.

Go into your steam directory, and find the rct.exe under Steam\SteamApps\common\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe - right click on rct.exe and properties - click the compatability tab - and the rest should be easy. Try setting it to Windows7 (or Windows XP) - You can also get there by right clicking on the game list - chose properties and the windows that opens says 'open game directory' or some such....

And sorry to tell you this; but sometimes it IS your system - because there are thousands of video cards out there; and GPU's and CPU's often don't get along in a certain combination (AMD CPU's when they first came out were notorious for it...) - that doesn't mean it is something wrong with your system per se; just a conflict in the design - it happens.

Regardless, if you can get it to work in compatability mode - that's how. After you've set it for Windows7; double click the icon and see if it works...
