Roller Coaster Tycoon (RCT) Deluxe Won't Start
I have a WIndows 11 pc and the just won't start. I click play on steam, It shows ruuning for a moment but then It goes back to the play option and the game doesn't start. I already tried to enable Direct Play and compatibility mode, but nothing seems to work. Can someone help me?

I've been having this same problem. I've also verified the game, still no go. Very frustrating.

Same frustration. I had no issues with the game for 4 weeks and now suddenly it's acting up. I have done everything from running on windows compatibility to windows 98/windows me to running on administer. I can get it to work for a moment but then it crashes. I'm so frustrated with this. I have verified files, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc.

I only have problems with the game when Im trying to mess with stuff on my second monitor while playing... Its a bit finicky

I found this on Reddit:

Hey, I found a fix for mine that might help you. I had to do this for both Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe and Roller Coaster Tycoon Triple Thrill Pack. You basically by-pass Steam and just install the game on your PC. Right-click the game and go to "Properties", then click on "Local Files" tab then click "Browse Local Files...". For the original Roller Coaster Tycoon you want to locate "RCTdeluxe_install" folder and in Tycoon 2 you want to locate the "Install" folder. In these folders look for the "setup" application. It is a dark blue icon. Click that (follow the prompts) and it will install the game directly to your computer, create a short-cut, and you can launch the game from there.

Hope this helps! I spent 3 hours trying to solve this for myself so maybe I'll save ya'll some time. :P

I tried this but when you bypass steam, the program requires a CD. I launch it in compatibility mode but then it requires a CD

It's crazy that steam makes a sale on a game that literally does not work...

The OpenRCT2 requires Roller Coaster Tycoon Classic and doesn't work with the Deluxe version
So we would have to buy two other games if we wanted to play it eh lol?! Even worse lol!!!

but it worked for me lol
And... what do even you mean it worked for you? As in you used OpenRCT2 without Classic and so Grimkell is a filthy liar? Because if you mean quite literally anything else then well... honestly I probably couldn't care any less LOL!!! You currently have no post history beyond the four posts in this thread making it very likely you're an alt account, making your words worth less than dirt to me. I can't even check if you own the game, so you could be making all this stuff up about ever having an issue with the game! But if you're gonna claim Grimkell is a liar then thanks for letting me know I guess, his claim did go against what I previously thought and so I did suspect that may have already been the case.

I'm not even going to bother trying to understand the extent of your word salad here, but OpenRCT2 only requires Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 to function.[openrct2.io]. But if you have RCT1, you can import the scenarios and some graphics from it. "Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic" is a "remaster" by atari, and is not relevant to OpenRCT2.

ah, got it fixed at least when you own RCT 2 Triple Thrill Pack

Install that one first, it will install some Microsoft Direct X and whatever the other one is called, then you can play it

No, to play with OpenRCT2 you need RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack or RCT Classic (which is RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack + scenarios from RCT1 Deluxe + a new user interface).
If you want to use OpenRCT2 for its many fixes and QOL features, it is recommended to buy and use RCT2 Triple Thrill Pack and RCT1 Deluxe, because they are cheaper combined than RCT Classic and almost all RCT1 content becomes available in-game.
