RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

This or RCT2?
I played this a lot as a kid and loved it, but never really got a chance to try Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. I played it once for like two hours, and while it had a lot of cool additions I really disliked the fact that you had to choose between either letting the customers pay entrance to your park OR pay for every admission to a ride, not both (if I remember correctly).

But yeah, I don't know too much about the second game, so what would you guys say is the better game?

RCT 2 is a refined version of RCT and offeres a lot of stuff that this game needed. BUT I found the campaign wasn't as entertaining to play through and I have a greater nostalgia attached to it, I recommend getting this one then getting the 2nd once you're done with it. The 2nd one will probably end up on sale in that time ;)

RCT 2 has a sandbox mode, while the first one doesn't. Im not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that! But they're both really good games! :)

RCT2 is closer to having a sandbox mode than RCT1, but it isn't a true one. (You still have to decide what rides/scenery and shops/stalls you are going to have, you cannot have them all at once)

If you like to try and 'win' then RCT1 is better IMO. If you are more interested in 'creating' then RCT2 is an order of magnitude better with how you can use scenery.

I give my advice based on nostalgia. I have spent several hundred hours on RCT and for some reason i didn't like RCT2 as much as i liked the former one. And as far as i remember, it did have a sandbox mode. Or if it didn't, you can go sandbox in a campaign :D

Indeed, i had the exact same experience.

I'd play RCT deluxe any day I played RCT2 a little but something about it I just didn't like any where near as much! This game is amazing!

RCT all day. On RTC 2 it doesnt let you charge for rides and to enter the theme park at the same time, which to me makes it less fun.

There are some levels in RCT that have conditions like that where you can only do one or the other!

Well, the biggest advantage the first game has is probably "more attractions" as a lot of the "new" attractions in RCT2 are just a variant of an old one the first game had by letting your switch vehicles of a ride (e.g. the Steel Mini Coaster from the first game was split into three or four rides in RCT2) and the addons in RCT2 were mostly reskins for existing attractions.
And some attractions from RCT1 or it's addons didn't make it into RCT2

But RCT2 had a better way to handle ride-decoration with scenery.

While a few annoying things from RCT1 were fixed in RCT2, RCT2 has a few things I really HATE. The different skins that are split in multiple attractions are really annoying, you can't set both entrance and ride fees and all scenario's are unlocked immediatly. I personally like the low resolution of RCT1 as it makes menu buttons much bigger. Unlocking and completing all scenarios in RCT1 gives much more statisfaction than in RCT2. Just did btw :P http://youtu.be/yQ56aJunegU (can't post inside steam as I only have cd version)

The scenarios in RCT2 are hot garbage. Get the first one, it's infinitely better.

RCT2 has bad scenarios, but more features. Up to you

The scenarios are the actual game, though. If you had $5 on Steam and could buy either HL2 or HL2 Episode 2, what would you buy?
