Tips for building an exciting wooden rollercoaster (RCT1)
Just tried three times and for half an hour+ to build an exciting wooden coaster and failed miserably. Not one got past 2 on the excitement scale, but they were at 15 for intensity. On RCT 3 I build a steel roller (first custom roller on that game) with 13 drops and 3 inversions and got an excitement rating of around 7. Back in the day I'd knock out rides that would get 6+ (and 10+ drops on average) for excitement on RCT1, including wooden coasters (although produced several that were bad too). Two wooden coasters I remember were Dynamo and Black Widow. If I remember right the first was a 10+ drop coaster which got 7+ for excitement and the second was a 7 drop coaster with a similar excitement score.

The rollers I tried today had 13 drops each, but failed. I haven't got time/patience for trial and error these days. Any tips?

When Intensity is too high it will start to reduce excitement rating . However if Intesity is too low it will also decrease excitement . I don't remember where cut-off is but 6-8 intensity seems like a magic number .

Most likely Causes :

Sharp Turns at high speed .
Long Drops/Too many Big Drops
Long Drops or Long Uphill at high speed
Sudden up/down direction switchies at high speed . In real life that would be painfull to suddenly switch direction at high speed because of g-forces .

You want rollercoaster to go very slow ( just enough speed to get from start to finish )
You can make a lot of drops but make them very small .

Try not using more than 1-3 parts for the drops and have a lot of them . See how that works . If intensity is low enough you can modify Rollercoaster sligtly to increase excitment .

For Turns use longer turns . Also you can just put brakes before turn if you have no space . Follow up with escalator again . ( that will increase crash chance do to faulty brakes ) So ideally you want to carry momentum from start to finish .

You can also slightly boost excitement of a roller coaster by :

- Placing any scenery withing 5 spaces ( just place it withing 1 to be safe ) . Caps at 48 objects I think . It seems to add like 0.2-0.3.
- Having another RollerCoaster near by .
- Synchonizing rides .
- Using music gives like 0.1 or something
- Having it enter the ground .
- Having it go over water .

Also some rollercoasters have uniqe rules for Ratings so intecity is harder to get . However regular coasters like Wooden have normal rules and you really need to watch out for speed and g-forces .

If you make a a screenshoot or video I can analyze it more . Some stages require several Rollecoaster above 6.60 which is pretty hard even for someone who played this game for years .

Embanking turns would also help lessen the G-force impact, and thus intestity. I find them best for turns where I don't want to slow down. Lot better than the whiplash of a normal turn.

Hopefully you're already having another ride go over, under, or along the coaster track. Easy way to increase excitement for both rides.

Please post a screenshot of the coaster and the ratings so we can exactly point out where it went wrong. An intensity rating of 10+ will cause the exitement rating to drop drastically, lower intensity ratings have no effect on the exitement rating at all (though things that add for the exitement also add to the intensity). The game uses nothing else than the values on the stats screen to calculate the base ratings, after that some bonusses are added to the exitement rating only.
