RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

RCT Deluxe crashes during gameplay
Hi, hopefully someone can help me out.. at first I wasn't able to play it and I found out I had to change the compatibility in properties settings. Now it runs on windows 98 (it says compatible for windows xp but it doesn't run on that option). I am able to start a map but after a few minutes it crashes. It standard crashes if I click things like 'save game'. Who had the same issue or who knows how I can fix this? I play it on windows 11 and have GeForce Nvidia 3060ti. I also already checked multiple times. 'verify integrity of game files'. Also changed it to an older DIRECTX. Can it have to do something with the NVIDIA?

specs:
Windows 11
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F, 2500 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
16GB
Nvidia 3060TI

Unfortunately this forum is a dead end for technical support, for if you even get a reply at all, likely it will just be someone recommending you use Open RCT2, a mod requiring the sequel.

unfortunately openrct2 is your only chance. 12th gen intel will crash old applications as they dont know what to do with E cores vs P cores

If that were the only issue you could fix the game by setting CPU affinity to a single core in task manager. You are still going to be running into dozens of crashes and game breaking bugs due to other compatibility issues.

OpenRCT2 is the best bet

I was experiencing the same issues. Resolved running the exe ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe") directly and enabling compatibility mode in "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". Night and day in terms of performance and it hasn't crashed since discovering this yesterday. Might be too soon to tell but I immediately noticed a difference.
