Nice! :) I will assume that setting it to any old windows version can do the trick, from Win95 to at least XP. After that might be tricky.
While looking around for a solution for my game, I did read a couple other tips too. My system is in a different language than English, so sorry for any translation errors :|
- Try running it directly from the installation folder, not through Steam. Easiest to find the file you need by browsing local files in the game properties, find the RCT exe file and open it from there.
- Turn on/off Direct Play: Press the Windows key + R. Type in "control". Go to Programs - Turn off or deactivate Windows features. You will get a new window with a list, click the + sign next to Legacy Components, and uncheck or check Direct Play. I read people had tried both, and got the game to run. I didn't touch this option.
- In addition to trying out different Win-versions for compatibility, also check to run the game as administrator, see if that helps. Run a troubleshooting for compatibility too, for good measure.
- Check that drivers are up to date, especially GPU. This is something I often check first, since I use an AMD Radeon card, and those can have issues compared to Nvidia.
Can't think of anything else to try right now, woke up too early, its only 4am and I need to get coffee :)
