RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

Issue with Black + White Graphics in RCT:Deluxe
Launch the game, it starts up, and the splash screen is in black + white(B+W). Clicking to get to the main menu will bring me to a B+W main menu. Clicking the scenarios button and launching into a scenario gives me the game, in B+W.

There is one caveat: Running the game in windowed-mode regains the normal colors, but my monitor is 2560x1440. The windowed mode, even when dragged to its largest size, is still too small to play, at least for me.

I am on:
Win7
Intel 4790K CPU
16GB DDR3 RAM,
Nvidia 1660Ti GPU
Game installed on a 8TB HDD

I have tried:
Running in compatibility mode for Win95, Win98/ME, WinXP SP2+SP3.
Running in 256 Color
Disabling visual themes
Disabling desktop composition
Disabling display scaling on high DPI settings
Running, or not, the program as administrator

Nothing has worked.

I encountered a problem with it asking for loopy landscapes CD key when I reinstalled the game. The solution to that is to go into the Steam local files, heading into the RCTdeluxe_install folder, and running Setup.exe as administrator by right clicking and clicking Run as Administrator. When the installer pops up, click install, and you just run the installer as normal.

Any solution would be helpful. I have sent a ticket to Atari, and that just nets you a link to your support ticket that you need to login for, on a webpage with no ability to login, so there's that.

Thanks denizens of Steam and the internet for reading.

I finally figured out how to login on their support page. Boy was it infuriating when I figured it out. Anyways, I have submitted a ticket in my name and asked them for help. If I receive an answer from Atari that yields a fix, I will come back with that information.

hi having the same issue, Did Atari get back to you with a solution to the problem?
Commy☭Cookie Jun 28, 2021 @ 10:21pm
Nope. I never heard back from them. Even put a new ticket in.

The solution for me was to upgrade to Windows 10. Oddly enough, Microsoft’s free Windows 10 upgrade software still worked for me and I upgraded for free.

I use Stardock’s software to make my start menu similar to 7’s and I haven’t looked back lol.

It works fine if you play in window mode instead of fullscreen. But I would really like a fix to play in fullscreen for windows 7.
(I'm lazy and not ready to change to windows 10 just yet, gonna upgrade parts in my pc at the same time. So that's why I haven't upgraded yet. Cause it's not fun to start all over and install games etc. It takes time)

Hey how do you set it to windows mode for Win7 ?
Commy☭Cookie Jul 18, 2021 @ 9:14pm
To set windowed mode, get into any scenario, go to the top right and get to options. Full screen and windowed mode are a drop down

Yeah, I did find that out when trying to fix it on Windows 7. Monitors are too big for that these days. A 1024x768 window is still tiny on a 2560x1440 monitor. So, I ended up committing to Windows 10. I was kinda holding off on upgrading because I didn’t think I’d like 10, but with Stardock’s Start10, I’m basically running improved Windows 7.

I don't know how you found this, but this is a GENIUS workaround, and works for numerous games, including Caesar 3 and Hard Truck: 18 Wheels of Steel. Thank you SO VERY MUCH, good sir, for you have resurrected some of my all-time favorite games, even if they are in smaller windows (which I'm used to using).

It’s funny that I didn’t think about Voodoo.

Voodoo did remedy issues with Populous: The Beginning back on Windows XP for me and I haven’t tried something like a third party tool for this issue.

Didn’t even think it would work for another title like Rollercoaster Tycoon. Good info, nonetheless. Hopefully it works for everybody.
