RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe

general questions
I've played a fair bit of this game but there's still some stuff I'm unsure of.

1. Are security guards and entertainers necessary at all for the average park? I don't see too much vandalism as long as my park's clean and guests are happy; do security guards do anything else? Do entertainers raise park rating or anything useful? Or are they only good for "boring" parts of the park, such as long lines or pathways?

2. Is it bad to put "food stalls" near each other? I assume anyone who buys french fries also won't immediately buy a burger, then ice cream; but would they buy drinks, use the bathroom, visit the kiosk, buy a balloon? Basically, is it a huge waste to make a food court, and should I just scatter the stalls throughout the park? I typically have a food/drink/bathroom combo near each other, and kiosks scattered indepently.

3. Guests keep getting lost on parks I've just started, such as Trinity Islands. I'm only halfway through developing the first island, and they run to the far island and get stuck there. Aside from building a path spanning my entire lake, is there anything I can do, such as building more kiosks or hiring more security? Leafy Lake, for example, let me send guests to the back of the forest, far away from the entrance, and they never got lost.

4. Is there any real reason to repay your loan? A maxed out loan only seems to cost you $20 a month or so...

5. What's better for raising money: Letting the park decide what a ride's entrance fee should be, and having a free park, or making people pay up-front at the entrance and having all rides free? I typically do the latter, because otherwise, the ride's value decreases over time and people won't want to pay it.

6. Is there any good way to share your park, such as a screenshot system, or is the game too old to have such a feature?

7. Is there a way to force settings to stay turned on/off? On Trinity Islands, I keep turning on Underwater View so I can see the park borders. Whenever I build a new ride or path, it turns off the underwater view. Likewise, when I'm building 5 rollercoasters near each other in Bumbly Beach(?) I keep turning on Invisible Supports, and it keeps turning them right back on as soon as I finish building.

8. Does doing stuff like placing hedges, fences, bushes and trees affect a park's rating? Mowing grass? Do decoration types matter? For example, placing cactuses in Desert Dunes, rather than flowers. Or having more Roman/Egyptian themed decorations, rather than just normal fountains and statues.

9. Is buying land outside your park every really worth the money for any scenarios? Or is it better to only buy exactly what you need to fit that curve of your rollercoaster, or buy a single line for your monorail to run through the empty desert?

10. Sometimes when coasters or log flumes break down, when they start back up after they're fixed, they get stuck. It's typically at the top of a ramp leading upwards; the cars all crash into each other and there's a pileup. (Not explosions, thankfully.) Is there some way to prevent this? I usually don't notice until the game says "Your guests have been stuck on Rollercoaster 3 for ages!"

11. For the vanilla parks, do I need to be able to build rides underground, or can I make do without it? Some smaller parks, such as Whispering Cliffs, seem like you're intended to build your coasters into the cliffs, but I have trouble seeing where the tracks meet up, where the park borders are underground, etc. I tried to make a figure-8 train stack, with both stations aboveground but the majority of the tracks underground, at Bumbly Beach, to transport guests from the west end of the park to the east end; it probably took me 10 minutes to build the train that only had 2 stops.

Sorry for so many questions, but even answering just a few would be helpful!

I believe I can help you out a bit, with my ninja info cards.

1a. Sucurity gqurdas are only useful to help stop people from getting angry. That only happens if you have a bad park. When people are angry they tend to break everything that is breakable in your park. The way sucurity guard do this is they have an invisible "aura" and "infuse" the gusts with not angriness. If you wish to use a security gauge effectively position their patrol area in crowed or well used path ways. 1b. The entertainer works in mostly the same way. The exception being that they make guest happy and are best to patrol in long lines and crowded areas. 1c. In conclusion they don't do anything else except looking awesome. They help the 'boring parts' much better in 90's style.

2.Your idea on the food system is fairly on point to how the game works. Food courts aren't a complete waste of time but are not needed for every park. Generally if a guest needs something their AI will check for near by food/drink/bathroom/umbrellas and head for it if is not close enough they might feet moody. Also if they stumble onto a suvineer stall (cuddly toys, balloons, ect) they will pick it up if it is decently priced.

3. This is more on Guest AI. In RCT deluxe the guest tend to get lost if the path isn't very linear (more than one path next to each other, large open pathed area, complex intersections). If you want to prevent this in beginning a park of large size and existing paths you can symply delete some path and slowly open up the park to guests. Alternatively spread your reasorces across the park and only when the path starts to seem boring if you where a guest.

4. There isn't much reason to repay the loan. Unless you want a higher park/company value.

5. If you wish to make the most money pay to enter and for all rides/stalls ( including restrooms). Although getting the prices right for everything that way is very difficult. So just go for paying per ride beced on the excitement rating rounded down. Exp rating 4.67 -> price $4.60. That way you achieve the most money out of each ride and guest. Paying at just the entrance is the symplist but not the most profitable.

6. There are ways to share your park through screenshots in the floppy disk icon there is a screenshot button. It will save it right into your RCT deluxe folder as a .PCX file. You could then open it with an external program such as Photoshop and save is as a PNG or other such file type.

7. There isn't much of a way to do what you wish, but in the options underneath the floppy disk icon there are hotkeys to this game and you are able to rebind them to other keys. Such as being able to close the most recent window with backspace or toggle underwater view.

8. Themeing together the same types does not matter. But it does make guests that walk past slightly happier. Such as if grass is mowed and there are a lot of theming around a guest might think this park is really beautiful.

9. In some scenarios buying land is almost nessisary such as in dinky park it is hard to beat it without buying any land. Although in most parks it is not very nessisary, unless your roller coaster just will not turn in time and that little plot of land make your day a little easier.

10. Well if this happens you can just pause the game double click on the red stoplight for that ride if you have done this correctly you should see nothing on the ride and a pile of people next to the exit. Then you turn on the ride and unpause the game. Or you could get a new ride and give it a creative name and not rollercoaster 3.

11. Building rides underground is not nessisary in this game. I have played through whispering cliffs without ever building underground. Yet building underground does raise the excitement of a ride by a bit. On the topic of underground mine train rollercoasters are not as exciting as if they where all above ground.

Sorry for answering all of the questions and not saving any for others. Hope you are satisfied with my answers.

I wasn't aware that the loan had anything to do with park value. That might be good to know for a few scenarios!

Likewise, the bit about deleting a path so they can't access empty areas of the park - that's so obvious, yet I didn't think of it.
