Can't Build While Game is Paused

When I bought the original game for PC on a disc back in the mid 2000's, you could pause the game, build a few rides and some food stands and a bathroom or something, and then open your park for people to come in. Why is that option not available for the version I downloaded on Steam? That's like, the worst update ever?

I don't ever remember being able to build while paused until RCT3, although it's considered a cheat in OpenRCT2.

Thanks for your comment @joe01489! Did you ever have it on a physical disc or did you just have an online version? My sister and I swear we could before, it was a huge time saver! The only thing we couldn't do while the game was paused was rename a ride or person and then do something else. If you just renamed them and then unpaused the game it would change it, but if you did something after it and then unpaused the game it would forget your new name and keep the old one.

I was able to build in pause mode with an older savegame, but when I started a fresh park campaign this wasn't possible anymore. Don't know why. Maybe there was an update on newer versions?

Maybe you are confusing this with another tycoon or sim game. This game has had no dev support after its release. Because devs didn't patch games in 1999. This steam version is like playing the 1999 game with bugs and all. The only difference is its disc free lol.

I remember not knowing how to play this as a kid and I would keep the park closed until I felt I had a few rides and shops for guests lol. But I don't recall building in pause mod. Strategic pausing in 1999 wasn't really a thing. Pausing in 1999 was for when mom making you take out trash.

i had the game back in the 90s. there was no pause and build. pausing paused everything, including building

I'm definitely not confusing it with another game, it was Roller Coaster Tycoon. Everything else about the game is exactly the same, unless you guys are saying there's another game out there that is called Roller Coaster Tycoon that is this game exactly but you can build while you pause. We had it on a disc. We put hundreds of hours into this game. Like, summer vacation from school, all day, literally every day. Thanks for the input though!

Just found this, I played this game back in 1999, and yes, 100% you could build while paused. I don't know why that is blocked now. I actually got 100% completion on the game, and one of the biggest "cheats" to get the time sensitive achievements was pausing and building.

I've been playing RCT 1 since it was new and you definitely could not build while paused. You could still navigate the menus and use some functions but they would not apply until the game goes live again.

Cant say the same for RCT 2, never played it that much.

i have a question.....
how do i get a new subjective in the game.... the first was try to get 250 people in the park and 600 visitors in 1 year..... i won that! but now i dont get a new objective (a new goal to reach) how do i get that?

You only get one objective per scenario.
If you want a new goal to reach, you will have to start a new game. The game will still label Forest Frontiers as being completed and you will find a new scenario has been unlocked in the list, but you'll have to pick a different scenario in the list and start from scratch.

Dynamite Dunes should be the next scenario on the list, which has an objective of reaching 650 guests in 3 years.

I had/have the disk version and no, you can not build on pause. You can if you use openrct2 to play though.
