Can't run RCT 1 or 2, DirectPlay won't install, error code 0x80070490
I'm trying to play RollerCoaster Tycoon Deluxe and 2 on my Windows 8.1 computer, and they cannot open because DirectPlay won't install. When trying to enable DirectPlay in the Windows Features area of the Control Panel, or when trying to run the games, I get this message

"Windows couldn't complete the requested changes
Windows couldn't find required files to complete the requested changes. Make sure you're connected to Internet, and try again.
Error code 0x80070490"

I am connected to the Internet. RCT used to work on this computer using the original CDs, both when it was originally 8.1 and after I switched to 10. I switched back to 8.1 a year ago (after 10 gave my laptop issues), and I'm now trying these games for the first time since.

Has anyone had this DirectPlay issue before? Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help you all could give would be super appreciated! I've been looking forward to having these games back, my life doesn't feel fully complete without Woodchips and Fizzlys dotting my virtual landscapes.

I have the exact same issue as you, with the same error code. Have you encountered any solution?

I don't have this problem, but here is a page that lists some possible solutions. Ignore the part about them trying to sell you their software and read the solutions listed. Maybe one of them can help you.

And here's another one in the Microsoft support knowledge base. Follow the instructions listed for Windows 8/8.1 and they should work the same on Windows 10.

Thanks for your help! I have found the solution (with some help on another forum).
Ran the following command: dism /Online /enable-feature /FeatureName:"DirectPlay" /All

Fixed it for me.
