Game Crashes When Forging At Blacksmith

Me and my friend started playing this game together yesterday in local co-op. We have completed all levels and got the final end credits of the game with only 1 crash in the whole 12+ hours we played.

Whilst she's not here I thought I'd try forging some more items but now I'm getting random crashes during the forging part. I can see the next button that shows up in the white circle in the middle, but it's frozen and not doing anything. The music is still playing and can hear the background sounds. I don't know why this is happening??

I have i7 @ 3.40GHz, 16GB of RAM and Nvidia Geforce GTX 760 running on windows 8.

Found a way to "continue". As I have a XBOX 360 controller attached I just thought to press it. As soon as split screen appears the game unfreezes and continues. Hope this helps someone too after all these years.

Update:
The freeze happened several times and getting the second player in coop always unfreezes my game.
