Stuck on the Fire Drake level at the beginning

I am supposed to "buddy up" and smash a cracked tile on the stairs, but when I press the prompt, they just run in place. I have tried from every angle with the same results. There is no way around this, so could someone please tell me how they got past this part? I guess I'll try restarting the level in the meantime.

[edit: Going back to main menu and reloading did not help. If I have to restart the game entirely, I am going to be pretty irritated. None of the other LEGO games have ever given me any issues...]

Oh my God, how lame.. I was able to jump on the pile and break it from there (when I couldn't jump on other piles of the same nature). At least I got past it, but this has me worried that other places later in the game are going to be glitchy...
