flies and spiders/staff of wisdom glitch?

i am the part where u have to climb on top of eachother and then jump to grab the robe, seems easy enough, except my dood wont grab the rope. please tell me wtf i am doing wrong. do i need to push a directional also? i can not get this

Try using an elf from the nearby objects ( don't smash them before you use them as a bit of higher ground).

I dunno if you where able to get it, but the same happened to me. He wouldn't grab it, no matter what. Be sure to use an Elf or the Mithril Sandals, and jump on top of the table next to that part. Jump on his corner and you should be able to get it. Thanks for the idea! I was stuck here for quite some time, trying to use the bouncy thingy, which is too far away to work.
