Problems with saving
The wife and I have been playing on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and Steam Play has been great. Took a break for a couple of weeks and went back to the game, and saving no longer works. Our last good save was Jan 13 at the top of a mountain with those eagles. When we walk to Beorn's homestead, watch that unskippable cut scene, do the run down the mountain, watch the unskippable cut scene, solve the bee puzzle, and watch the unskippable cut scenes, we save and exit only to find we're still only 14.9% through the game, with our game's last save date unchanged.

Also, I don't like that I can't skip cut scenes, especially after seeing them six or eight times when trying to work on this problem.

Help? (with the save problem, I gave up on the cut scene thing)

Sorry, Save and Exit will only save the stud total and any items found. The only progress saves are at the very end of each level when the game saves to your slot allowing you to go on to the next level. One of the many quirks of Lego games. I can only suggest that if you are short for time on any level that you stop collecting studs and breaking everything possible and get through the story as fast as you can to achieve the save-point. You can then revisit the level and complete everything without worry. The cut-scenes will be skipable on replays (Enter, then U on prompt for keyboard).

Hope this helps :)

Thank you for the response! I had wondered if this were the case, but we had made it through a number of levels -- at least I think so! We made it to the end of Flies and Spiders (at least I have the achievement) but the save still thinks we're starting Queer Lodgings. Am I missing something?

The auto saves are obvious when you reach them, there's an ending cut-scene then you get the stud total/items found/mini-kit progress/bricks earned and then the choice to continue to the next level. You can't really miss them, but some levels are extremely long especially if you are collecting studs without the stud-magnet.

Good Luck and hope you have fun playing :)

Yeah, we're *definitely* reaching the auto-save -- the unrolling of the contract, the "free play unlocked", heck, the "MASTER BURGLAR" for the Beorn stage. It might be a file ownership issue or something, but there are no errors thrown in the terminal window where I run Steam, nor are there any complaints displayed in the game. Ugh. Without a fix to this, we can't really keep playing, because it's getting REALLY OLD to do this same part over and over, and even our toddler is getting bored with the repetition.

Have you tried just carrying on through the next level to see if that will create a new save point?

We tried that tonight, no dice. We also tried starting a brand new game, and saving at the first opportunity (a save statue in the Smaug attack) and it did not save. So there is something wrong with my installation keeping it from saving. :-(

I've never been able to get the statues to save, but in a previous thread 'SleepingDog' gave an explanation ( haven't tried myself) I just play through to the end of the level.

Although this early in the game I can't remember if you can access the map?

If that doesn't help maybe run the game from the 'exe' file as Administrator to make sure you have all the permissions needed. There are also compatability and Win10 troubleshooter in Properties there which I use for game glitches but probably don't apply here.

Sorry you're having such problems, it's a great game really. Good luck :)

Just an after thought. You could delete the save-game folder to force the game to create a new version which might not have the same problem? :)

Alas, no running the EXE as Administrator for me since I'm a Linux user. I'm now at the point where I want to delete the save-game folder, now I just have to find it!

In Windows it's in the User / Appdata / Roaming / WB folder if that gives you any clues :)

In another post I saw one location where it was stored, but when I deleted that location (after saving a copy) and removing then reinstalling the game, it was still there. Bleah.

The game will automatically recreate the folder. Are you sure the old Save is still contained in the file? I would uninstall the game then delete the entire folder path all the way up, then reinstall.

Possible alternate: I don't know about Linux but by changing DirectX versions on Windows the Save files are made unreadable. The game tells you they are corrupted and you have to overwrite them by playing a New Game on the same Slot.

Sorry you're not having any luck with this :(

I had wanted the game to recreate the folder, but without the save, and that's what it appeared to do. Maybe this file is corrupted and was saved to the cloud or something. :-(
