So far enabling it for Tomba seems ok, but it doesn't change the fact it's a STUPID DESIGN DECISION.
When I realised Limited Run were behind this, it all made sense.
No emulation or performance issues here btw, it looks sharp in hi res, no warping, the emulator is good and I am guessing mednafen or duckstation.
That control layout has been the same for Tomba! For like, 30 years. You can see it was even the same in Japan, where normally X and O were reversed from the US, in game viewing the JPN manual. A is jump, B is attack, X is Animal Dash and Y is the menu.
It seems the one playing it backwards on other emulators would be you.
"Cause it's caused me nothing but headaches in my 5 years of PC controller gaming when a game itself has native x input support, and I only buy games with native x input support to begin with."
It doesn't get any more laughable than this.
