On July 12, 2023, Limited Run Games announced they would be working with Fujiwara to release an enhanced version of Tomba! on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows. The new version will run on Limited Run Games' Carbon Engine and feature a new soundtrack by Fujita.[36] The enhanced version, titled Tomba! Special Edition, was released on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Steam on August 1, 2024, with a PlayStation 4 release to follow later.[37]

The carbon “engine”. Is just a wrapper for emulators. It’s really nothing special. I would feel bad paying for this. Nightdive should have been given the rights to do it properly.

Fujiwara surely can't be happy with this game port and how LRG have screwed the pooch.

As I already mentioned, there won't be anything that will be fixed in the game. Maybe a few more little things, if anything, to improve the gameplay. There are already innovations in contrast to the original like on the PSX, and this is now the special edition that we have here. The innovations are the remastered soundtrack, a new, beautiful menu and all the extras. THIS IS THE SPECIAL EDITION. Why should the game possibly be expanded at some point if they are already releasing it now? Doesn't make any sense, apart from that it's not an early access game where content is added later.
For me it remains an emulated game, you can write whatever you want, everything here is exactly the same style as the original, even the stupid loading times and the loading times when you switch to the inventory and back again are there. What they should change would be the sound effects that are played in the intros, currently everything is only tuned to music and you can't hear any sound in the videos.

and the last patch improved and adjusted the music style because some said the patch didn't change anything, but that's not the case. In the hidden village the music has been adjusted again as in the original, it was swapped with the dwarf village and the music is NO LONGER playing in the "now loading" screens, so what was the case before has already been adjusted.

Let's see what other things can be fixed

And some also said that Tomba runs from zero to one hundred at full speed, which is true when you play with a keyboard, but that's not the case with a joypad either. because if you play with a joypad and move the analog sticks very slightly, then tomba runs even SMOOTHER than in the ORIGINAL. You can change the running speed via analog all the time, depending on how hard you move the sticks of the pad, this wasn't the case in the original, so an improvement in my opinion.

From its official website:

"Created internally at Limited Run Games, Carbon Engine is a multi-platform development tool that helps different emulators interface with modern hardware. It uses emulation as a base, on top of which the Carbon Engine builds features like UI, rendering, audio, data management, controller inputs, and console-specific SDK features like trophies. It allows Limited Run to put out highly accurate, emulation-based ports of classic games for modern hardware."

The proof is within the game itself, just look at the "Licenses" inside the Options menu and the first thing you will find is "PCSX ReARMed".

Tomba! is clearly emulated and that is why you will find the exact same problems as the original such as translation errors or long loading times.

love people imposing their own opinions on others as if it was fact. You personally know him and talked to him right? How exactly have LRG screwed the pooch? Cause they forget to equate all the people that just come here to moan and not actually have any intent of purchase because they read "LRG bad" and run with it as their whole personality

In the game files in the "data" folder there are 2 files with the extension ".car". Try copying these files, renaming them to ".iso" and opening them with a PS1 emulator.

Exactly!
One file is the NTSC version, the other is the PAL version, by the way in this one, if started via emulator, it shows the original intro with the song "No Sweat".

Not at the moment because there is no Japanese ISO version inside the folders.
