Help Us Translate GearCity
Since I have a couple of dedicated folks working on translations now, I have disabled public registration. I will be manually approving registrations now, so please email me if you think you should have access. I will make a list of translations without individuals/teams assigned to them soon.

Website remains the same: http://translator.ventdev.com

PLEASE ONLY DO TRANSLATIONS ON THE WEBSITE! THE WEBSITE IS DESIGNED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE TEXT WILL NOT CRASH THE GAME, AND IT NOTIFIES TRANSLATORS WHAT TEXT HAS CHANGED. WE CAN NOT INCLUDE TRANSLATIONS DONE OFF-SITE WITH THE GAME!

Old Post:

Hello everyone!

Due to the nature of Early Access we will are unable to do the translations officially until the game is completely finished. The text of the game is constantly changing which would make it too costly for us to maintain the multiple languages. So we’re asking you, the community, to help translate the game into your native language.

If you would like to help translate the game, please make an account here and start translating!

We are in the process of implementing a custom translation program since Pootle (lack of stability) and Google Translator (lack of support) did not meet our needs. As such translation service will be down for the next couple weeks as we set everything up.

To join the translation, simply sign up New Server and Service Pending go into the GearCity folder, find your language, pick the latest build and start translating!

If you don't see your language just post here or email me and I'll set it up for you!

If you wish to see progress simply visit: New Server and Service Pending projects
Experimental translations should be included with the game.

Thanks!
Eric

The Italian Community translation of version 1.16.4 has stalled at 46% complete. Hopefully after the holidays it'll pick back up.

As for an Official translation, we will pay for one after the game is complete and is out of early access. I give you a 100% guarantee that the finished game will have an Italian translation.

If you're interested in helping the community translation, send me an email and I'll get you set up! :)

Community translation is currently at 41% of version 1.16.1

As for Official translations I refer you to the comment above. We're doing it to around 15-20 different languages. So 100% sure the game will be translated to German by full retail release.

This is a pretty old thread so no one might read this anymore, but which languages will actually be part of the game in the future? So far English, Russian, German and Italian have been established. Are there any other languages the game will be translated into?

I read everything that is posted multiple times. :)

Assuming sales remain as they are, I am willing to fund translations into quite a few languages when we reach that point. It's unknown exactly how many, but I can probably confirm: Proper English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Norwegian, Russian, and Ukrainian at full launched. With high probabilities for Portuguese, Swedish, Polish, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

Everything else will probably have to rely on our community translation system. (Even the above does somewhat, especially if sales decline over the rest of Early Access)

That being said, our community translation system is going rather well. Although there has been a few hiccups with the software on Google's end. We're currently looking at:
1.16.2 - German - 92%
1.16.4 - French - 69%
1.16.3 - Italian - 54%
1.18 - Polish - 23%
1.17 - Spanish - 58%
1.18 - Russian - 59%
1.17 - Swedish - 42%
1.16.5 - Danish - 28%
1.16.4 - Hungarian - 11%
1.16.3 - Portuguese - 28%

Which reminds me, I have some invites to send out for Romanian!

Well, I speak somewhat good French, enough to get around France. I suppose I could help polish of the English if that is necessary.

I'm completely anal retentive about spelling, both in my native Danish, and in English. Still pondering whether I should volunteer for anything, but I do have one major complaint about the English used in-game: it's "Advanced", not "Advance". Missing that one letter changes the meaning immensely. Advanced users may want to advance time with game speed buttons. ;)

I am dysgraphic, as such I will be paying for an editor once the text in the game is finalized. There are many more errors than you can imagine with the English text. Which is why I don't take spelling/grammar mistakes as bugs. If I were to hire an editor now, they would have to redo the work over, and over, and over again as the text constantly changes. (And I wouldn't be able to afford that.) This is one of the reasons volunteer translators have not been able to keep pace with our updates.

As for "Advanced" yes, it has been brought up before. I have to redo the GUI for that button, and to be honest, I have 250 other tickets that are much more important than the 30 minutes it'd take to replace a missing 'd'.

How can I try in the game, changes to the translation I'm doing?

Unfortunately you will be unable to until the translation is complete or near complete. At that time I can export the po file into an xml file and send it to you. After which you would make corrections to the PO file. The reason you have to wait until it is complete is because future translations will use the previous text. So if you leave English text in these fields it will think the translation is in English and mark those translations as completed.
