A sports car is a car designed primary for performance, however not to the extent that it falls into a supercar range. Typically a sports car is two doors and two seats, but some models have 4-6 seats.
Not all coupes are "sporty", for instance the Fiat 850 Coupe[www.classicandperformancecar.com] is not sporty at all... And some sports car can fit more than 2 people, such as the Ford Mustang[o.aolcdn.com]
Also note, vehicles tend to fall under a multiple classifications. Most microcars are coupes, most sports cars are coupes or coupe2+2. Practically all roadsters are sports cars, and roadsters 2+2 and touring (old term use) are the same thing... Etc.
