Kanon
Censorship?
Kanon was originally intended for Adult Audiences when it released back in 1999 for PC, It contained some Not Very Appropriate Content (I ended up finding that out by mistake on my original copy without knowing, all i knew was Kanon was made by Key) Will this version exclude those Erotic content?

If so i ask it be offered via a Patch on the Publishers website like with most VN’s intended for Adults do on Steam (These Patches restore Erotic scenes that are cut from the Steam releases)

Also, I've read the H-scenes in the old fan translation. They're hilariously bad. Some of them have incredibly dumb excuses. And their writing feels like something out of an IKEA manual.
What, you mean you don't want to see some Chuck Tingle level porn come out of nowhere to interrupt the plot, never get mentioned again afterwards (even when you'd think it would), and is obviously shoehorned in to sell more copies while being easy to remove for any potential console releases without affecting the story at all? But what would this VN be without Yuichi having out-of-place doggy style sex with Makoto while her mental capacity and verbal range are in the middle of regressing to Auuu-?

This version of Kanon is based on the all-ages release. It is not censored in any way. There is nothing to “exclude” from this version since it doesn't have any R18+ content to begin with.

If you care so much about the R18+ content, perhaps buying the physical edition or the download edition from DLSite is a better alternative. It has always been Key/VisualArts' choice to not release their works which include R18+ content for their western releases.

Well, no. That argument doesn't really work because the version it's based on was censored. The difference is just that the censorship was already done for the Japanese market.

Considering the extremely dubious quality of the content that was removed though, it's not much of a loss. Back in the old days before anti-censorship fanatics showed up, plenty of people argued that Key's VNs are better off without the sexual content, since theirs was widely regarded as extremely superfluous and poorly written. Despite being primarily made for one of the 18+ versions, the old fan translation even included an alternate set of scripts for those who prefered to skip this content.
Woke.

great to know, so I can skip buying this VN too.
no seriously, the 18+ scenes were just really bad. nothing of value is lost. you can find the CGs online if you wanna beat your meat to underage girls, but the scenes themselves are just so badly written that its not worth it to translate them to keep them in. especially when cutting the superfluous and badly written 18+ scenes means that they can sell the game to a wider audience.

Key hasn't released 18+ stuff since the early 2010's, they are clearly done with it. These scenes also have never been officially released since 2004 in game form, so it's clearly something they don't want to release any more. I personally don't care at all, but if this is what people keeps from going through this VN, that's up to them.

child version right?
I don’t care whether a VN has H scenes or not, as long as it’s got a good story, characters, music etc

Little busters is one of the best VN’s I’ve ever read and that was all ages

Not really a perfect example, since Little Busters! did get an 18+ version later on that had rather H-scenes shoehorned into it. They seem to have become rather infamous, though not just because of their quality and randomness but also because of some very bad music that accompanies them.

Ecstasy is not the same version

We may as well complain about the upcoming official fate stay night steam release being ‘censored’ when that isn’t based on the original H scene version

What we are referring to here is taking a H scene version of a VN and removing the H scenes entirely, like what happened with the English release of ‘if my heart had wings’

This is not the case with this ‘Kanon’ release because it isn’t based on a H scene version. Simples

I started playing the fan translation of this, but the one adult scene I saw was utter garbage (Makoto route). I stopped and watched the anime instead (which I very much enjoyed), and after understanding what's really going on in the story, the adult scenes truly have no place in this novel, and are an insult to the characters. It seems obvious to me that the story was originally written without them and then the adult content was just added in to drum up more sales, probably because this was one of Key's early works and they needed to do something to get noticed.

I was never going to go back to the novel, but now that we have a censored version on Steam, I'm definitely buying this and will play through it.

Trust me, this novel is far better without the R18+ content :)

It doesn't matter. They were still in the original game and so its still censorship. They are part of the story.
When people ask about censorship all you have to say is "Yes, but maybe someone will make a patch later if you want that stuff".
You don't need to attack it and basically say its okay that its gone.

Are you going to start attacking the Kud Wafer VN which was basically just an excuse to H Kud more or are you actually a fan of their VNs?

Also Kanon gained its popularity because of the original fans not Westerners who think it ruined them.
Those guys expected these scenes that was the market of the time and they were happy with them.

Its very simple, if the devs want to make a safe version then just have an option to turn off these things. Or release both an All Ages version and a full version.
Instead they are completely removed.
