i keep replaying the same level but the icon for *lank* does not appear for me at all in 8 waves not even once, am i doing something wrong ? i'm supposed to catch 5 rupees, but even when i looked into the guides, the guy claims an icon appears, but i played it multiple times, no icon appeared not even once in 8 waves.

There's not so much an icon as there is an animation of Lank struggling to try and reel something in. Click him when that happens and he fishes up a rupee.

It's also pure RNG, so you might be getting really unlucky.

When I did this achievement I clicked Lank one time at the beginning and then left him alone. After a good while an exclamation mark shows up above him. When that happens, click him and get a rupee.

I don't think you can get more than one per run, so you'll have to redo the level.

I actually confirmed (playing on the Android version) that you can get Lank to fish at least up to four rupees on one run. The trick seems to be simply leave him alone except when he reacts and the "!" symbol appears over his head.
I did tap him once at the beginning of the run. Which brings me the question: is it needed, or did it play against me making him require more time for the first rupee, so that he'd have been able to fish the 5 required on one run had I left him alone from the start?
