Game freezing when using tension skills

Sometimes when trying to use a tension skill, it looks like the game can't load the video that starts the attack and just locks me out of the controls. Everything is still going (music, character idle animations, etc) but no control options are given.

Anyone had this issue and know a fix?

Edit: It may be an issue with the Nvidia's 566.36 (Dec 5) drivers. I reverted to 566.03 (Oct 22) and I'm not having the problem now.

Issues with pre-rendered video are usually a driver problem. There's nothing special about those assets in terms of folder permissions. Everything is in the same place in the Steam install directory so it's not like your computer can't access the necessary files. Tension attack video clips almost certainly use the same codecs as the other pre-rendered cutscenes so that can't be the problem either.

It's cliche but try updating your video card driver and see if that fixes the issue.

This happens to me as well if I have to use it a second time in the same fight, so I got used to only using it once knowing what will happen if I do otherwise.

On the later bosses, it sure would be helpful to use it more than once though.

According to the NVIDIA app, I have the latest drivers update so I don't think it's that.

This seems to be just a bug that needs to be fixed. I would like to fight bosses without holding back my strongest attacks in fear of having to restart the fight.

Square-Enix has a troubleshooting page on PC Fantasian crashes. Assuming none of their suggestions apply, you can contact them and open a ticket. If it is a bug (and it sounds like it is) you should ask for a timeline when it's getting patched. If they don't get back to you then forward those emails to Steam support and ask for a refund.

So i've tried reinstalling the latest drivers, reinstalling the game, and restarting my computer but this issue can still be easily replicated by trying to do a tension skill twice in battle (as Krafin stated). I'll try the square's support and see how this goes. Shouldn't be a bug this obvious in a game.

When they had an update a couple days ago or so I thought it was to fix that tbh, but nah. Still an issue.

EDIT - I have now just learned that it also happens if you restart a boss fight after you die. The game still counts it as a second attempt even if it is the first after you restart. So annoying.

Unforunetly i have this bug also. Used 2nd time Leo tension skill in another (not same!) demingeon battle and game froze. A little bit annoying i must say.

Edit - for me its tension skill usage only once between restarting game. Second usage results in softlock. Its seems somehow game can load FMV with tension skill only once per starting game.

Edit - it seems bug is somehow related to g-sync, after turning it off and updating codecs bug dissapered.
