Also, Montague's Mount: although it's not a very good game it's very similar in tone
Second, and continuing with that idea, the best horror I've ever read are short stories. Check out Nightmare Magazine's website for a bunch of great free stories. Once you find a writer you like, check to see if they have any collections or novels.
(Second-and-a-half, check out Emily Carroll's comics, like His Face All Red. She draws with a storybook art style, and her stories swing between unhappy fairy tales and straight-up horror. You can't mistake her work for anyone else's.)
Third, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter might be closest to what you're looking for in a game that I've played, though that one's less scary and more... spooky? It's hard to explain the difference.
Fourthally, here's a couple of games that you might want to look at? I can't say for sure they're exactly what you want though.
Knock-Knock
The Music Machine
Neverending Nightmares
Oxenfree
Pathologic
Sylvio
White Night
edit: I just remembered the countdown trilogy from Ben Yathzee crosshaws, they are one man works and all free if I'm not mistaken, but definetely worth going through.

Related to the Cthulhu mythos, see the game Dark Corners of the Earth. It's a bit old, but the mechanics works very well with the atmosphere (basically, as you play, you go mad). This game is based in the tabletop RPG, with the same name and same madness-mechanics.
