I had a talk with the dev

A while back in march I emailed the dev, Dmitry Andreev, explaining my interest in the game and asking him a few questions about the game.
For those of you who care, that convorsation is below....



Hello Dmitry,

I was just cruising around the Steam store and I stumbled upon my Wish list. In my wish list is Lost Squad, which I added to the list on June 7, 2016. I remember that day because it was when I first found out about Lost Squad, a game that seemed very interesting to me. In a couple of months now, it will be almost a year since I added this game. When I looked into the community page for the game on Steam, I noticed people saying that they have been waiting for one or two years now. This upsets me because all we are left with is Release date: Coming Soon.... and there are no recent posts from the developers, so we are just left with nothing, and people are eager to know what is going on, and some believe that this game is fake.
The purpose of this email is to ask you a few questions, and if you don't mind giving me some feedback.
Is the game still in development?
If it is, when will it be finished?
Why have there not been any posts?
Why is it taking so long?

I much appreciate your interest in our project.

Yes, the game in active development, but we don't have approximate release date yet.

The reason why there are no posts is because I currently reworking whole rendering pipeline of the Source Engine in order to push graphics quality to the maximum possible limit. This job is very hard and takes so long because we don't have full source code of Source Engine + I have been working on a couple of other unannounced projects one of which is going to be revealed closer to this summer.

So we can't show gameplay or screenshots due to glitching/unfinished parts of our renderer even though we have much content to show. But I still update our ModDB page from time to time so you can track recent updates there.

Update September 9, 2019:
Thanks everyone for keeping this thread alive, at this point it is safe to say the game is dead. Feel free to keep discussing about the game......or just whatever else you feel like....

So I guess this is still a thing people are interested in?

Original developer, Dmitry Andreev, passed away sometime ago. Rest in Piece to my dude. Could explain some of the lack of development. There is a new company that has taken over development listed on the store page. I am shocked people are still giving this game attention.

Just out of curiosity have many of you all checked out ModDB which the developer refers to in the response to OP's email?

I did.. After searching for HL 2 mods and again specifically for "Lost Squad" I found that there is NO mention of the mod on ModDB at all.

There are numerous "Lost" in the title mods for both HL 1 and HL 2 but no "Lost Squad"!

After DmitRex's making such a point about updates on the mod site this would seem to be a clear indicator that this mod is officially dead.

Thank you for finding that. I searched the site for over half an hour and could not find a "Mod" titled "Lost Squad" to match the listing here on STEAM. From what I see and read on the link it is titled Lost Squad but it does not seem to be up to date being the last date of any posted updates to it shows as November 2018 and relates to weapon creation part 2.1.

Of course the comments section below it all seems to hold the same opinions.. Most recent one repeats my opinion. The mod is pretty much dead and forgotten and that really adds to my own disappointment because I have, as I have mentioned in other forum postings, been waiting and watching for this mod to release for over 3 years. While others have been waiting since the first postings over 5 years or so ago from the comments they have made.

It seems that the developer, much like myself, has over extended themselves by taking on more than they can handle resulting in more than one mod being delayed. After all. DmitRex did say they had other unannounced projects going too. There are times in my own experience where I have found, and I know others have too, that you have to prioritize jobs to get one done and then move to another. Too many things going to to get any one of them done and off the bucket list as it where..

IF DmitRex is still working on it perhaps they need to put some of their other projects on hold and concentrate on one at a time starting with the oldest, which may or may not be Lost Squad, and get it done and released with consideration for all their fans who have been so dedicated to be on the watch for it that they take time to post their loyal concerns for it.

I am fairly sure that others agree with me on this?

i remember finishing half life 2 back at the start of 2016, i then stumbled across this game and thought "sick this looks so cool cant wait to play more half-life" so i added it to my wish list because it said coming soon so how long could it take? Well reading through this forum as it went from hopeful to sad and depressing and it was. well depressing, would have liked to play this RIP

Last updated post on MODDB is dated November 6, 2018. That means nearly 2 years have past without any status updates or even a wishful thinking of a release date update. Of course it does not help that despite all the hooplah STEAM saying it is now saying it is not available yet on the store page even before it was updated to show not released yet it was saying the mod was released back in 2017. The store page update removing this would SEEM to indicate there is SOME activity with this mod.

Yet. As usual. Confusion continues to reign on STEAM?
