Game gets stuck in Chapter 3, help?

So I'm in chapter 3, and when I click on the controll box, instead of the pipe-puzzle popping up..nothing happens. The cursor becomes invisible and unresponsive and the escape button stops working. The screen doesn't freeze though, the movements of the inmates/orderlies continue and all the sounds are fine. I restarted the game many times, but nothing changed. Do you have any advice? Has this happened to someone else?

I know old games tend to be glitchy, especially on steam, but at this point it's not just a glitch if I can't even continue the game. Is there a way to fix it?

try restarting the lvl

I tried that multiple times but unfortunately to no avail. This glitch or whatever it is also happened in chapter 2 and restarting worked just fine then. This time though nothing seems to fix it.

hmm make sure your graphic drivers r up to date, and u might want to play around with a few diff resolution.

try running it on a diff pc if u have access.

No I have the same control box issue. The mouse disappears and keyboard controls stop working. I read it's a glitch, but to avoid it you need to open the door before interact with the box. I did so, but it still glitches out.

Have anyone figured out how to avoid it? I'm stuck...

same issue. it also happens when you try to pick up the cross. tried several times

I have the same issue - if I click on the control box or the door, the game loses the mouse/keyboard, including Escape. It is 100% reproducible. I have tried it ~10x already. Does anyone have a solution for this? How could this game still be for sale if it has such a catastrophic flaw in it?

The game is now supported in ScummVM, so you may play with it. This bug will not be probably there but as the support is just recent, there may be other issues. You may help ScummVM developers by submitting a bug report.

I was able to get past it. I had a save from the beginning to chapter 3. If I immediately go to the door on the right side with Dr. Morgan, the game doesn't freeze. I skipped talking to everyone else first. Then I got the cross and talked to the person in front of the church, opened it, then went in to give the cross to Bob. With the broom, I could do the pipe puzzle and advance to chapter 4.

Nice that you've overcome this bug but there may be other glitches as the game is quite buggy. I completed it in ScummVM yesterday without the major issues and think it is a better way to play it now. ScummVM developers are fixing reported bugs while in the original they will probably stay forever.

Thanks for the suggestion. I love ScummVM and play many games with it - I had not noticed the news from earlier in the year that Sanitarium is now supported. I will give it a try!
