XDX6.exe
Quote from the readme file:
"Note: Only the XDX6.exe version of the game uses the latest code.
On new systems it is recommended to use this version of the game instead
of the older X.EXE based on older APIs. Both version will be installed and
are available in the start menu!"

But there is no XDX6.exe in the game folder!
So basically I have to still download it from some pirate copy in order to play the latest version, or what?

Basically....this explains that the Steam version is the utmost latest version. Not sure where this XDX6.exe came from, but if you check the version number of X.exe with that of the website, it should match with the latest.

Also of note, the download on the site is NOT compatible with the Steam version but is an automatic patch of the Steam version. You are using the most up to date version.

Also of note, if I remember correctly, all the exe files you get from games from steam are altered specifically for Steam in some way, so the lack of a XDX6.exe means it's either merged with X.exe as part of the Steam integration or part of the 2.2 patch or even an earlier patch.

Personally, I think as the readme says it's for version 1.96, that XDX6.exe was removed and integrated as part of the v.2.2 patch.

I hope this helps to clarify it for you. I wouldn't worry about it at any rate.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. It seems they simply included an old readme file.

Yea. That's my guess. If there's no need to update the readme, there's no need to update the read me.

Don't forget though......the last update before this one was over 10 years ago, so you gotta give 'em credit for patching it in the first place =]
