If you want save the game you will go to a trade station and look for salvage insurance you have to buy it, once you buy it hit enter and it will let you save the game.
It has no subtitles.

Press H to see the various key commands. F8 will take you to the options menu. Shift+P pauses the game. Shift+Q quits and takes you back to the main menu. As mentioned before, to save you must dock at a station and purchase a 10 credit Salvage Insurnace. I'm not sure if this game offers a subtitles option.

I can't work out how to find my credit balance. It's a stupid thing I know, but anyone know how?

Probably in the ship or player menu (S, P keys)

Actually I've played X-Tension when I was like 12-13 years old, and it wasn't all that hard) If I did not understand something I simply checked a website where you could find all the info about X series, although its in russian.

I find this game easy enough to manage......no need for subtitles if you actually go in the settings and make it use the better sound samples.
Although some races can be a little hard to hear even then; just listen REALLY carefully.

Can you be more specific for the improved sound quality?
Xiphos08mp Jan 7, 2013 @ 3:33pm
When the game is up and running, hit "F8" and then select "Sound Settings".
Undernieth "OK" and "Cancle" you'll see a button called "Advanced"; click it.
Change the appropriate option to "44KHz, stereo 16bit" and enjoy the vastly better voice quality. Also change the speaker setup to whatever you have. For instance, I change my speak setup to surround sound.

If you haven't done already, I'd strongly recommend going through the video options as well.
"F8" again followed by "Graphic device / 3d card" this time.
Change "Norm. texture format" and "Transp. texture format" to "6: 32 Bit RGB, R:8, G:8, B:8, A:8".
Turn "Multi-Texturing" on and "Automatic Quality" off.
Set the screen resolution to the correct setting for your screen and you will optimal display settings for the game.

So now you should be running the game at the best visual and sound it's capable of.
If you want to improve graphics that little bit more, force Anti-Aliasing through your GPU drivers before you run it. Revert this option back to previous after playing the game though.

Also, the screen where you have 3 tick-boxes and "Start X" and "Cancle" that comes up before launching X, leave "Use settings" ticked and the other two unticked. This is the default. It seems if you hit cancle here that your settings revert to default, so be aware of that too.

Any PC game you ever play, always go to the options first and foremost. Obviously on the first time you play it.

Not that far into the game myself and loving it. Already have a few mines in Sizewell with a Dream Farm and a BoGas factory in Kingdom End. Been looking around there and placed a Teladianium factory in Rolk's Drift which should bring in a nice profit as the Bio Gas factories use that.

Ship has 100 cargo with 2x 5MW shields and the Gamma Particle cannon which is sold in Kingdom End.

First thing I got which was definately the best thing to buy FIRST and foremost......the SETA......it's cheap.....you can get it in Seizewell......and it makes long distance adventures SO MUCH faster ^^
I have a few energy thingies directly under Crystal Fabs in Greater Profit, Thuruk's Beard, Family Whi and Kingdoms End. You can fill them fast with crystals.......then just go on an adveture for a while......return for lots of credits. Cheapest way to get credits fast in the early game. Especially starting with the one in Greater Profit. Just set the pricing to 10 credits and you'll come back with a nice full wallet ^^

I'm on the 2 5MW shields but Gamma IRE Lasers instead, I'm gonna skip the Particle Accelerators and go straight to Gamma Plasma Thorowers =] Althought, they are pretty damn expensive. lol.
Also have 2 engine and rudder enhancements and a cargo bay of 125 right now.
I want to get my engine to about 20, rudder to about 5 and cargo to about 200......all very expensive by that point. lol

I have noticed with the guns I have now there seems to be recoil from them. Is this normal ? And if so is there a way to dampen the effects of the ship moving about when firing the ship guns ?
Xiphos08mp Jan 10, 2013 @ 3:47pm
It's normal......the best way to damped the effects is to get used to them in all honestly.....burst shots......don;t just hold down the fire button.

If you don't yet have a space station or factory, the best things to trade to start making lots of credits is silicon wafers, and crystals. I'm currently saving for a mineral scanner so I can find a good place to set up a silicon mine, crystal fab, and a solar power plant.

So do I need to fo to a trading station every time I want to save the game? Or can I do it some other way?
Xiphos08mp Jun 17, 2013 @ 5:18am
I'm sure this has been covered in a previous post but you HAVE to go to a space station and buy Insurance to save. There are some stations that you can't save in bbut it's been so long since I played it I can't remember which ones they are. I THINK it's trading stations that you can't save in.You'll work it out no problem anyway.
