That will give a background of the story and they're very cheap on Steam just now.
Out of all the X games I have enjoyed X2-The Threat the most, again on sale here and well worth the money.
I wouldn't compare them to Elite in any way really apart from they're all space games. Just my opinion.
Not interested in Rebirth but prehaps one of the later ones if I don't get this one and/or Extention.
To get it work in Win 8.1 I had to set the game program run in Win 7 compatibility mode to play From me it gives a border around the screen at what ever resolution so far. Nothing off putting and I think the game looks really good @1280 x 1024
the first game is pretty basic, still fun just takes a real long time to get started as you start virtually naked, broke, and confused. learning curve is far less steep than other iterations, and manually having to dock for many hours gets tiresome.
still if you want the story start with X:btf.
X3 doesn't feel as streamlined as 2 in terms of interface but is sooo much nicer to look at.
X:btf is a strong title and reminds me of Morrowind though X:Tension is more open ended in that regard I believe.
