Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok

Heroine's Quest: The Herald of Ragnarok

Hero 6
I remember following that project some years ago, hoping they would finish. It's sad that they never did. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, this excellent game comes out. Is anyone from Hero 6 responsible for this game? How about the other QfG-inspired games coming out? I'm just curious and can't really find out anything looking myself.

I believe some people are still trying to see something made of Hero6, but I am not sure where it's at.

Other QFG-inspired games are Quest for Infamy (www.infamous-quests.com), and Mage's Initiation (www.himalayastudios.com), which are both commercial. The Coles (the designers of the original QFG series) are also developing Hero-U (hero-u.net), which is also going to be a RP-adventure game.
I see. thanks for the info. I looked on the site for this game and they even had Edvard Grieg listed as an influence. I know that his song "Anitra's Dance" was used as the Inn Theme in QfG4. It was my favorite and most memorable theme in that game. Yes, I'm a big QfG fan. :)

Also, it's interesting to know that Tierra (also known as AGDI, also known as Himalaya) was formed by people from the Hero6 project; whereas Infamous Adventures (also known as Infamous Quests) was formed by people who first met at the AGDI forums. And, although Crystal Shard itself is older, the team that created our first big adventure game also first met at the AGDI forums.

There's also at least five other fan-made QFG spinoffs that were started but have since been abandoned, but Hero6 is basically the grandfather game that started it.
Excellent, this is the kind of stuff I was interested in knowing. thanks
that's so interesting and cool!
I had to double check, but AGDI made the QfG2 VGA remake, right? I always thought it was very well-done. I believe they made a few other Sierra remakes that escape me at the moment.

Yes, AGDI remade KQ 1, 2, 3 and QFG 2. IA/IQ remade KQ3 and SQ2. All downloadable for free from their websites.
I need to go check those out. I sort of fell off the radar with this stuff over the last few years, but this game has renewed my interest.
The QFG2 remake is very good and an obvious next game to play once you've finished HQ as all 3 classes.

I'm saddened that Infamous Quest's SQ3 remake wasn't completed. It's my favourite sci-fi adventure ever, and it would have been nice to see it get point & click accessibility, instead of two remakes of KQ3 :D:

On the other hand, I think the QFG concept is the best point & click has ever produced, and I like their unique spin on it. I also feel good that they may be about to make a career of it by going commercial.

Well, speaking as someone who has worked on art with IA/IQ, SQ3 remake was never seriously started, apart from a few backgrounds being touched up. I don't think there was any intention to take it on.

IA actually began working on the KQ3 remake back in 2004, and it only became apparent later on that AGDI were also working on a KQ3 remake. IA decided to finish and release their remake anyway, because a lot of work had already been done on it by the time they found out, plus it was good experience for them. IA's KQ3 remake was released in 2006, AGDI's was released in 2011.

Anyway, now IQ is working on QFI which was the title of the first game they originally wanted to develop. As to whether a career can be made by developing retro commercial games - possibly, for a game designer, but for an artist, it would be much harder. Certainly, it wouldn't be worthwhile for me to drop my full time job to make art for games.
SQ3 was by far my favorite from that series. Even though anything can be improved, I thought it wasn't one that necessarily needed to be remade. QfG2 seemed a natural fit as it was the only EGA part of the series (and I believe the last EGA Sierra game).
Hero6 development has resumed at Hero6.org. We have the majority of content that was not lost when the Hero6.com public forums became overrun by spam.

Development resumed in December of 2013 and a full version is not scheduled for release until late 2015, early 2016. However, I've decided to make the code and current version of the game downloadable during the development process.

Also, anyone is welcome to contribute!
@RobertKety: what's the status of the game? In what areas are you most looking for help? Do you have someone actively working in each discipline (code, art, writing etc.)? May I suggest you list each discipline with an estimated % complete on your progress page[www.hero6.org]?

@xlynx: I'm currently repairing the code for functionality and readability. Specifically, renaming functions so they are more descriptive, adding descriptive comments, and transitioning the code away from older AGS standards. It's time consuming more than anything else, but moving forward without these improvements will cost me my remaining hair color.

I've started keeping a to-do list of individual issues I encounter. I'll publish it on the progress page by the end of the month. Great idea!
