How to play rogue?
How do I steal something? My thievery is too low for anything, and I can't up this skill without thieving :/ I can't hunt, I can't steal, I can't get money, I'll die from starvation soon.

Fight and kill a varg, then cut some meat from it. There are places with fires in both cities where you can cook it. If you manage to skin it (depends on your Animal Ken score), use the daggers on it to cure the pelt so you can wear it. This lets you stay out in the cold for longer, and if you have extra pelts you can sell them.

You can also find a fishing net hanging from the frozen ship. Take that, find the hole in the ice covering the lake and catch a fish (again, you'll need to cook it).

Also, don't walk anywhere in the early stages of playing a Rogue. Sneak around in Stealth mode and you'll get your score up, which will help you to steal things.

Note that a rogue cannot successfully catch fish unless she has Animal Ken. Note also that after visiting the Jarl, he has some food delivered to the guildhouse, to start you out.

Ah good ol skill grinding :) <Small spoilers> Yeah the rations mentioned above should hold you out, I got the vast majority of my food from the vargs, but as far as thievery; once you find the thief lodge you can practice thievery very quickly by stealthing and trying to steal the small statue on the table when people are present. You can also train acrobatics i believe with the balance beam in there. And throw snowballs. Tons of them. It gets your throwing, strength, and WEAPON USE up which is very very useful. Maybe agility too I forget. Happy hunting :D

Thanks a lot for all tips.

How am I supposed to break into homes when there is always an animal/guard right there? Is this based on your stealth score or is there a small time frame where there will be nobody around?

EDIT: Ok, they do leave eventually, I just didn't wait long enough.

Those damned hyper intelligent dogs. Always annoyed me playing a rogue.

probably too late but to train thievery earlier than the guild
you can get heime to knock down a frost flower
then use the tinderbox on it to train thievery up to 25
be careful though it eats up stamina
