How to Enjoy Litil Divil (Guide + Controls)
Alright folks, I promised a while back I would write a small guide of how to play this game for those who are familiar with the CD32 version or those who have actually never played it. This game is actually fun, unfortunately it is not very well presented or made easy for those who were not born when games had no tutorials or gave you no clue on what to do (This was part of the fun in games).

My experience with the game starts off with the CD32 version which was a little more polished version than the PC counterpart, had better/more sound effects and added a few gameplay changes which are desperately needed within THIS version, however not necessary to complete it.

This is actually a pretty enjoyable game, jsut very unfriendly when it comes to controls, so let me start first explaining the structure of the game then how the controls work:

Each Dungeon/Level is structured always the same

-Duel with the Bridge Troll at the start of each dungeon, The exact same troll (Different colour) every time you begin a dungeon.

-Find your way through the dungeon to collect 3 artifacts which will let you complete the level. These artifacts varies depending on the dungeon.

-You have a Health bar which slowly depletes with time (Getting hungry). Finding food will replenish it. Walk on food and gold to pick them up (And consume it in case of food).

-There is also a time limit for each dungeon which is represented by the creepy looking character (Death) at the top right of the screen. The moment he pokes his body out completely, the game is over.

-The corridors have a series of traps which can be avoided if jumped or dodged, but failing to do so, will result in loss of health. As you progress through higher level dungeons, you will have to deal with more trap types.

-Each dungeon has a shop which allows you to buy equipment required to complete puzzles. A shop is hidden behind one of the green doors which you must kick open before you'll know what it is.

-Each dungeon has a number of puzzles hidden inside doors. You must complete these puzzles in order to continue your journey through the game and find the artifacts and the way out. Some of them will not be achievable unless you have the right components with you or unless you figure out how to play it (Understanding how it works is part of the gameplay). Unfortunately there is no way to tell if you have all the right components before opening the door, it is all about trial and error.

-There is no save feature in this game, instead you have to find the room which allows you to sleep (Save) the game. Unlike the CD32 version which made you restart the whole level where you last saved, in the PC version you will actually restart from the room you slept in making the save feature less pointless at level 1.

-Failing to complete a puzzle or using shop/save room, will remove a little bit of your health once you get out of that room.

-Some puzzles involve more than one button to be used, so for example one puzzle will allow you to step on spiders with your feet with the main button, while the secondary button will enable the insect spray (and only If you've purchased it).

-Every dungeon has one "boss" fight which is usually a duel similar to the first one with the troll, except you will need to find an item to win it (For instance the first boss is a sumo wrestler, and you will need a needle to poke his belly once he is too tired to fight, something which will be done automatically). The duel room is always the same so you cannot be mistaken: A circular stone arena with a large stone face in the background.

-You cannot get stuck in this game, like buying the wrong items or using a key with the wrong door, the design layout won't let you (Like giving you only enough money to buy the basic items while the later items are much higher price). So keep in mind there is ALWAYS a way out, you jsut need to understand a puzzle or find the unexplored corridor.

-In the CD32 version you had a key feature which by pushing "Down" your devil would turn 180 degrees and face the opposite direction, so you could easily go back. However in the PC version there is no way to turn in such manner, the only way is to find an intersecting corridor or a corner, so that you may go to the edges of it, and make your devil change direction (Is a bit of a pain but it can be done, and the design of the game usually is intended to give you enough turns and corners).

-----Controls.

It is important for you to understand this game uses a lot of the action button+direction (Z and X are the main action buttons) and unless you do exactly what the game has designed, you won't be able to do them so think of DOWN+RIGHT+FIRE in some cases. It uses a lot of DIRECTIONS+FIRE moves.

IMPORTANT: The controls are VERY contradictory within puzzles, like for instance, in one of the puzzles, you are required to jump on rocks to reach the other end, to turn your character in the forward direction and jump, you have to press FORWARD+UPorDOWN then jump, but going backward for some reason you will only have to press BACK then jump (Meaning if you are trying to do the logical thing of BACKWARD+UPorDOWN and jump, it won't work).
Another weird example is the early platform jumping puzzles where you see the devil having to jump over large, stone platforms to find is way out and avoid bone-throwing skeletons. In this level for some reason then Z jump doesn;t work in all directions you will instead have to use the X jump (Which does the exactly same thing except it works for all directions). I am afraid that this is proof the PC version was not properly tested (If at all) as the CD32 was.

--Bridge Trolls

Bridge trolls have 2 moves, they either squash you or send you flying. The way to beat him really easily is to learn how to read and anticipate their movements (As they take almost 2 full second before being executed).

So if their club is coming from above, press UP and the devil will block it, if is coming from the back of the troll, he is about to swing and you want to hold down Z+BACK to dodge.
As soon as you blocked/dodged, immediately counter this by pressing FIRE+FORWARD, or FIRE+FORWARD+UP or FIRE+FORWARD+DOWN (Long range and so most effective from my experience).

Your devil can also roll back and forward if you press FORWARD+DOWN or BACK+DOWN but I find it of little use.

--Dungeon movement

UP= Forward
LEFT= Strafe Left
RIGHT=Strafe Right
DOWN= Move backward

Z or X+UP or LEFT or RIGHT or DOWN= Jump in those directions until you release the fire button.

Z o rX+UP= Opens a door when standing right in front of it.

Check the Inventory= Z+X

Load a saved game= You must first defeat the first troll and be within a dungeon to bring up the loading screen (yeah I know -.-). Once the troll bridge is dfeated and you are within the dungeon corridor, press the "F3" Button and chose the floppy disk option then choose the slot you have saved your game over. There is also an option to quit the game or return to the game.

---------------------

This is it I beleive, if I can think of more I will add it. Seriously guys this game in its days was amazing, it jsut needs a little love and who knows some interest might make some devs or whatever improve it or re-release a better version (CD32).

Enjoy it!

Have you considered turning this into a guide? https://steamcommunity.com/app/283430/guides/ You'll probably get more views that way, and the guide format seems more fitting than a forum post.

If you press A+S Litil Divil goes to sleep on the floor. I think that way he slowly recovers HP can anyone confirm it? Amazing game!
