Defending emeny attacks
Playing on Hard, on day 3 I had 9 sectors but I lost 3 of them due to endless emeny attacks. I think they attacked me 6 times within one day and most importantly unlike JA2 you do not seem to know when and where the attack is about to happen. Also guards do not help, my max limit of guards was 16, so only 2 sectors could be fully protected. Spreading guards is pointless, they always lose if they do not have a numbers advantage.

I even tried to savescum and send guards to a sector that is about to be attacked so they arrive and take it back but this did not help as well cause I could not move my guards fast enough due to how many attackes there were.

Unless I am missing something game feels extremely tedious on hard cause you are basically doomed to lose a bunch of sectors each day with no real way to avoid that.

Any tips and comments are welcomed.

If you have 9 sectors by day 3, you should be able to place more guards. Unless you had mercenaries and guards who died earlier, causing everyone's morale to drop drastically. In the beginning, focus on going north since your first mission is to save the water resource that is being poisoned. Maybe this was an issue for you too? Save the game and send your mercenaries to the areas where the enemy attacks so you can defend them together with your guards. Enemies usually don't cross water tiles often, so you can place fewer guards there. Hope this helps.
if you're one of those people that plays every game on the hardest difficulty there are some games where you really don't need to do that and this is one of them

As someone who plays every game on hard difficulty I approve this statement. Older games most of the time was designed in mind to be difficult on "NORMAL". All after that is challenge for experienced players on their own fear and risk. Since 10's I used that every "normal difficulty" is easy, and "hard" is normal, and wasted almost a year(!) to beat one strategy that wasn't designed or balanced on anything that's above "normal difficulty". You wouldn't get rewarded for this, and your time and nerves will be wasted.
Action-oriented games are not so time sucking, though.
