how do I play with Oculus Rift?

I tried starting with Steam VR but I only enter a white room where I see the black headtracking stand...

Hi!

I'll put these into a FAQ at the top of the page:

1) Install the SteamVR runtime from your Steam Library (it's under Tools)
2) Run the Room Setup Utility (it's kind of weirdly named)
3) In your Oculus setup, whitelist SteamVR (steps are here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3180-UPHK-0900 )
4) Now just run SteamVR from there and select the game.

I had installed steam VR and had the oculus already set to allow to play other games, as I needed that to run Elite. Now what do you mean by 4 - Run steam VR from there?!
I just tried all this and ended up in that white place again with the tracking camera shwoing as black in that environment but the game even though I had started it under the steam libary wouldnt start! and on my main monitor I see that little steam VR menue with the tracking camera green and the headset green...

but no way to get the game running!
